Well i got my notice right after VW blew up about their deal. Is it not now in the realm of reality that an auto maker can have this mentality? Coincidence? maybe.

The defective catalytic converter is going to block the exhaust flow. I had some misfire and I have relatively low mileage 8K miles on 2014. After the fix...I haven't had backfire...maybe one time a small one. I read the OBD and cleared the code to see if it would happen again, but it hasn't thrown any codes. To me, it's worth it seeing the replacement part is not cheap and they are doing it for free. It's bolt on and will have no adverse effect other than the burning smell of a new component that was probably soaked in some kind of lubricant or oil. The smell is gone after a few weeks. I would just be happy Toyota is willing to fix something and it doesn't cost you anything other than time to get it done.

depending on your region/State, the CAT might be on backordered.
Mine was ordered Dec 8 and Im still waiting. Called the parts guy yesterday and was told they have 40 on order and I should be called by the end of this week or early next week.

if you ask me, Toyota was pretty stupid to send thousands of letters to get the CATs replaced knowing that they didnt have enough replacement parts.

Just had my catalytic converter replaced because of the recall notice. Took an hour and a half. They do have to verify your VIN number and order the part, took about 3 weeks to get mine. There is a shortage and the part costs $2030 (says the dealer) so I would definitely get on the waiting list ot your local dealership.
