I have just bought my first Tacoma - a 2010 (new) 4 cylinder (2.7L), 5 spd manual shift, Access Cab, PreRunner.
Can anyone with this same truck comment on their in town stop and go gas mileage? I knew the window sticker mileage estimates were unreliable but I seem to be getting about 16 or so MPG in city driving. I shift close to 2000 to 22 or 2300 RPMs and don't drive fast. Am I getting what should be normal?
    Thx.

How many miles you got on it? I have a 2010 4-banger 4X4...and I get between 20 and 21 MPG mixed driving. My MPGs have gone up recently. Truck has 7600 miles now and started noticing a difference in mileage after 5K. It should get better with time.

Ohhh.....Congrats on the new truck!............and thanks for your service!

Best I've gotten is 24 mpg at around 2000 miles.

I average 20 now, and I'm slowly creeping back 22. I'm not at 10K miles

The easier I take it on the gas pedal the worse my gas mileage is. When I'm running around like a retard shifting at 3k or 4k rpm I'm managing better mileage.

ditto. I have just bought my first Tacoma - a 2010 (new) 4 cylinder (2.7L), 5 spd manual shift, Access Cab, PreRunner. I only have about 600 miles on it and the mileae stinks. Hoping for better once things loosen up.

Mine is red. Does color affect milage? :)

I have the same truck as you and get a reliable 18.5 to 19.5 miles to the gallon while commuting around the city. On the highway I can SOMETIMES manage to squeeze about 21 out of it. Keep in mind I am running some HEAVY (51 pounds a piece, tire only) 265/75/R16 tires.

I don't buy the giving it some time to break in stuff either. My mileage hasnt changed a bit since I first bought the truck. Plus the engine is broken in at the factory so having the valves or rings seated is definitely not an issue.

I average around 18, mostly running the interstate at around 80 mph. I'm sure having 4.10 gears and big mud tires don't help me.

I drive 100 miles a day to work round trip about 98% highway at 70 mph. I've found 8 gas receipts that I wrote the trip mileage on and the average is 26.49 mpg.
That's the same gas mileage that I was getting with my 96 xtra cab with a 3.4, V-6, 5 speed, 190,000 miles. I'm very disappointed. I was expecting to average about 30 mpg with this anemic 4 cylinder.

Did the sticker advise 30 MPG? I'm thinking about a 2010, and the Toyota site says 20 city and 26 highway. You're averaging .49 MORE than the quoted specification here:

I am the member that started this thread/question. As I said, my truck is a:
2010 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab PreRunner, 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual.
There will always be a lot of variables we need to keep in mind when discussing Miles Per Gallon - one of which is the drivers style of driving, aggressive or easy/slow. Also, I live along the coast of North Carolina and you can't find a hill anywhere! Mileage here will vary a lot from someone who lives in West Virginia and is going up and down all day. As I said, there are a lot of variables. One last thought. My truck is a PreRunner. Sometime someone with a 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, Access Cab that is NOT A PreRunner joins in and states their mileage. The rear end axle ratio is very different in the PreRunner versus the standard Access Cab, with the PreRunner NOT getting as good Miles Per Gallon numbers as a truck that's NOT a PreRunner. Thanks for all the replies/information. I only have 300 miles on my truck and it's all in town mileage. Soon I will go on the local interstate and put it on cruise at 65 to 70 and see what the highway mileage is - on the completely flat highways where I drive. Thanks
