So I bought my first Tacoma 2 weeks online on Oahu and had it shipped over to Maui. (during the week while I was waiting I discovered Tacomaworld:)) Picked it up last friday from the harbor and was really excited with my new purchase. Pulled into the parking garage at work later that evening only to notice a loud ticking sound that I thought was construction at first but it was actually coming from underneath my truck!! Faster ticking as I accelerate, slower ticking as i slowed down. Not even 100 miles on it and it sounded like it had 300,000:eek:!! so embarassing and i was really upset!lol When I got home that night I checked the tires for rocks, got underneath to see if there was anything noticeably defective etc. and noticed nothing. Took it into Maui Toyota the next day and they checked it out. Apprently the extension housing oil cover was grinding/rubbing against the drive shaft due to poor fit/assembly and caused the noise. They took it apart and put it back together correctly so now it's running great but poor assembly doesn't sound good. Is this something to be alarmed about? Anyone have an experience like this in the past? I love my truck now (yesterday I just finished painting my rims, grill badge and had the windows tinted for my first mods:D:D:D...more to com!) but in the back of my mind Im hoping that I didn't buy a bad apple!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. There's always going to be something that gets through especially with assembly lines. That's what the warranty is for... Even with the 'complaints' the tacoma gets from a lot of members, overall it's mostly whiny nit-picky stuff compared to the competition :D

Also, welcome to TW and congrats on your new truck!

Just to clarify. the truck wasn't assembled on a friday, Im not sure even when it was assembled. The truck was test driven and then bought at the dealer on oahu 2 weeks ago by me, then shipped interisland on a barge to myself on maui where I picked it up. Thanks for the responses.

WOW, did you test drive this thing before you took delivery? I would not have took delivery if it had those problems up front.

AGREED! People sometimes forget that someone who has had a problem or bad experience is more likely to tell others about their bad experience. people who haven't had any problems usually don't think to tell everyone what their experience was like unless they are asked about it.

Just be glad your truck isnt in the shop every other week like many of the american car companies vehicles are.
