Its amusing how critical you are of gimmicks when Bama is involved in the Nike Combat jersey think, using Bear Bryant's hounds tooth hat design in their numbers.. If that isn't gimmicky I don't know what is. BTW you can stay off everyone else's teams who are wearing the Nike Combat uniforms since they aren't the self appointed Gimmick police you are..

 

So did you hear about the "Red Out Around the World" that Nebraska is doing for the Texas Game???

From my perspective, gimmicks sell merchandise, which in turn boosts licensing income for the university. Last year they pushed hard for our 300th sell out, this year they are pushing the Texas game. We probably have at least 12 items just for the "red out" and another 6 or so for the Texas "rivalry". All of that adds up quick if you consider we are just one of many Husker stores... I suppose it doesn't hurt team spirit with players and fans either.

In other news, did you hear about Oregon State painting their practice field blue to try to prepare for their match up against Boise State... If you want to talk about a gimmick, how about having a blue field to try to make things harder for visiting teams. What a joke.

 

Haven't mentioned the pro combat unis as gimmicks... b/c they're not. They're part of the Nike contract a lot of teams sign. When they pay us $4m to wear their jerseys, they get us to go with the pro combat style for one game.

If I'm the gimmick police, you can be the 'mws4ua is a hypocrite' police... if I call out a team for wearing pro-combat uniforms, or call those uniforms 'gimmicks', link to this post and tell the whole forum that I'm full of shit. I may say that a team's uniform looks goofy, or that Nike really screwed up the pro combat uni for that team, but I won't call it a gimmick. (Boise State's looked good... I didn't really like Va Tech's.)

For ours, I'm really glad to see that they didn't stray far from our traditional uniform. You can barely tell from a distance. The biggest change is the script A on the pants. The houndstooth stuff for the helmet stripe and the jersey numbers isn't noticable from more than a few feet.

 

I heard... Haven't seen it. I heard it turned more purple than blue.

I don't understand the point of the blue field. I can't watch their home games, though. It hurts my eyes, and it's just annoying. Isn't there a team with a bright red field, too?

 

The Pro Combat jerseys are a gimmick , they have been put into play by Nike to help pump up their jersey sales. They make sure the teams they pay an enormous amount of money wear them, ie Bama ,Ohio State and Florida so they can make pretty much guaranteed additional money. For the record I have the white out , black out gimmicks too. If a crowd is really loud they can affect a game but honestly what color shirt you wear to the game makes no difference to the players.. The Bama combats look good, Ohio States look good ,Boise , Va Tech and in my opinion Oregon States are butt ugly...
It is cool they didn't stray to far on Bama , they based my Buckeyes off of a couple of old uniforms so I like them but I am not sure how happy I am with the numbers, they look like UCLA type numbers.

Last years moto wasnit only takes 11 which a play on Aggies 12th man.

 

It should only take 9 to play the Aggies and BTW Texas was left out of the Combat uniforms this year...

SMU is giving TCU all they can handle. Its a great game so far.

 

I saw some of it, but the last 8 minutes of the game i missed, because I'm watching the LA Galaxy- Red Bulls match.

 

By the time I turned it on, the game was no longer competitive.

I keep forgetting to submit my picks before the in-week games. I missd the Thurs night game last week, and the TCU/SMU game this week. Dammit.
