Purchased a 2010 preowned access Cab v6 4x4 w/ 8k on it. its now got 47k. Just finally took it to the dealer for some TSB's and general recommended tune-ups.

My steering rack seals are broken and leaking. Dealer quoted me $1700. Initial paperwork says 5 years or 60k miles for drive train.

Is front steering rack considered Drive train. Not too much of a gear head but I would guess yes.

    Advice, suggestions? Covered under warranty?
    Thanks!

I would say no. Drivetrain is engine back to drive wheels.

Was/is your warranty one of the dealer's "Certified, Pre-Owned" warranties? It sounds like you would have to read the fine print on your warranty document. Steering box seals don't sound like a wear item (like tires, belts, brakes, ...) that are typically not covered by a warranty. But, only the document knows. Steering box would not be drive train.
