I've had me 2010 taco dclb for about 4months and 3000 miles. When I got it, it was completely stock with 17k on it. I put a magma flow muffler, and a few other DIY mods. In November I added an afe pro dry s cold air intake, install went good, but I'm getting horrid mpg. I averaged 15 before, and now I'm. Down to 12..... I pulled the battery off after install for an hour, but I'm thinking the only thing left to do is to put the stock intake back in and see what happens bc I can't think of anything else. If any one has any ideas or other options, I love the intake sound and everything but not gonna sacrifice that much mpg, so I can just send it back and buy some new tires!

Mostly driving it under 2200 rpms 90% of the time and sometimes get on it into the 3000s. Not really any harder than before

Cold weather/winter blend gas may be part of it. Idling/more time warming up ?

Check you MAF. Did you touch the sensor? Bump it wrong? Is it seated correctly? Other than that, BRAAPPPPP....

Truck is filled on 87, warms up with remote starter for maybe 10 min in morning, made sure not to touch maf but I'll check to make sure it seated correctly, should I try putting in 93?

I have never prewarmed any of my vehicles, it's not worth the gas expense over being cold for 3 minutes.

How many miles have you driven since install of the AFE? I'm sure the computers are learning the new air flow and will adjust.

Also the winter mix fuel sucks, try getting the ethanol free stuff and see what happens just for fun :)

When I installed my AFe cai I seemed to drop about 1/2 to 1 mpg. But I also added my 5100's shortly after so I'm not sure now which of the 2 is causing the drop? Maybe a combination of both. I wish I had given a little more time in between so I could have been able to say for sure. Either way you shouldn't lose that much, unless having the Magnaflow in combination is causing it. I'm interested to see how this goes since I also was considering a Magnaflow. Is yours a dual, single, or just added in the factory set up as a replacement or what? And how is the sound? I don't want mine loud, just want a deeper tone.

That is what I was thinking of doing, Is it loud? I just don't want it too loud and don't want any "ricey" tone. But now this thread has me scared about the mpg's.

You do not need to warm up a modern vehicle. Just don't drive it like and ass for the first 5 mins. I would suspect that is why you're having terrible mpgs.

It's warmed up for like 5 to 10 in the morning to defrost the snow and warm up a bit, exhaust doesn't sound ricey at all good tone from 1 to 3 k especially

There a way to many variables in trying to figure this out. I let it warm up for about 10 min in the morn due to living in erie pa and we have had real cold weather and lots of snow lately so I gotta defrost and get the ice off. I only drive about 3 miles city driving to work a day each way, and due little highway driving unless hunting or going on a trip. Bought the truck in august with 17k on it stock. only driven about 3k miles since purchase. Average mpg was low 15s Added magnaflow muffler in late October and sounds great not ricey at all. heres the link to muffler

On nov 13 I got my afe pro dry s cai in the mail and installed that shortly after it was cold enough to use remote starter every morning. I run 87 gas all the time I doubt the muffler had anything to do with it, so it could be afe or the starting up every morning, that could add up to over 1 hr a week of just idling in driveway. I guess im going to have to try and see if that's whats killing my mpg. Also I usually drive conservatively with rpms under 2200, and sometimes gotta punch it like we all do. Let me know what you guys think, I like the sound of the afe but would like to find the culprit of low mpg
