Hello all, My a/c on my truck stopped working yesterday. I took it up to a local shop and had it checked out. The compressor still works but it's not pumping. You could feel a slight chill in the air being blown but they told me it was stopped up, Apparently, the high side blew most all the freon out. They said I had to replace the compressor, expansion valve and the condenser at a whopping price of $2,650.
    Does that sound right?

Nope. Take it to a different shop. Have them hook up a manifold gauge. What is the pressure? Then start it up, turn on the AC, what are the pressure readings now?

    yep..
On my 09, corroded hose lost all the pressure. The compressor clutch stopped engaging to preserve itself. Once the hose was replaced and system recharged the compressor pumped as it should.

I think you should see a different shop, ask them to replace the blown line and recharge the system.

Ok, so I ended up buying a compressor kit and replaced my compressor and condensor yesterday. Vacuum pumped it out and loaded it up with freon......good to go. Total cost.....$400.
Heck of a lot better that $2600!!
    Thanks!

Cool (no pun intended). As I have said in other AC threads despite what auto AC shops want to convince you of there is not one bit of wizardry or rocket science in refrigeration systems...
