Hello all. I have a 2010 Tacoma which I occasionally notice has a problem with the AC/heater blower motor. It will sometimes just not come on (or be slow). I have noticed that if I use the side of my hand and give a good 'bump' on the dash just to the left of the glove box, it will usually come on. Is this a motor issue, resistor, or something else? Thanks!

Check the electrical connector at the blower motor along with voltage. Likely a faulty motor or electrical connection.

I think that's correct. I'll check it today. If it was the resistor, it would probably at least run in high speed only, since the resistor is not in the loop on high speed. So the connection or the voltage seem more likely. Thanks!

UPDATE: I pulled the blower motor out yesterday and tested it. It was barely turning at all. I removed the plastic shield from around the motor itself so I could see the motor contacts inside. I squirted in some WD40 and fired it back up. It is now running like a new one on all speeds. All connectors were good. I also checked the connection to the resistor and there was no sign of it having gotten hot at all. So I think I'm good for now, but I'm going to order another blower motor just to have on hand in case it happens again.

I would go ahead and swap the blower motor and use the old one as a backup. The reason is a faulty motor may draw more amps which could result in more heat to the electrical wiring and components.

You're right. And it takes all of about 5 minutes to do it. Thanks!

I had this problem and used a flashlight to wack the blower motor for the last year to get it to work. Finally that didn't work more than one second. I took the fan off and removed the plastic cover off of the fan motor and hit the metal motor housing while the fan blades where facing down several times with a hammer and saw a bunch of sediment that was black with copper filings fall out. I should have blown it out with an air compressor too but it's been working great now.
