Mine is 1/2010! I can't believe this...I had to convince my wife that the new tacos(bought 2 weeks ago) and her 2007 were all set- and now this. A little discouraging when you're a die hard fan and defender of Toyota- and just bought new...and the dealer is an hour away...

What you said is true and that is just sad .
Americanization of Toyota is ruining it. Crazy

I bet its not limited to only those dates - give it 2 weeks and they will expand it for most late model 4x4's. I find it hard to believe that that was a magic date where they used a different casting supplier and different design for the drive shafts.

It makes you wonder. They said this problem is below TSB level (voluntary safety recall) meaning they didn't get enough repairs/complains to issue one, but in good faith they are doing this for a lot of their models.

At least they are owning up to minor issues on a press level. It doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy.....it makes me wonder if all these odd complains/problems we see on this site might be little "potential production defects" as they say....like "the separation of the drive shaft at the joint portion." Minor indeed.

9/2009 so I'm in a happy place until something else comes out.;)

I am just waiting for the recall on my 09 I bought in July. I have had it in the shop twice within 6 months 1. Faulty window switch and 2. Reflash the autop shifting. I have a serious squeak in the rear end now. I am wandering if I should unload now while I still can. I really think Toyota dropped the ball and their quality is just not their as far as reliability on their new vehicles.

Not defending Toyota but this is an industry wide problem. There are not enough foundries in the US (a lot went out of business or moved over seas years ago)to supply the manufacturers in the US. So theses foundries are wide open swapping between Toyota parts to Ford to Volvo and back again 24/7. Quality will suffer for it.
I know we try to do a 10% sample inspection of all incoming castings and still we get defective castings after inspect.

The sad thing is that the drive shaft is not made by Toyota.
Our drive shafts are made by Dana Corp, an American company.

I just purchased a 2010 Tacoma TRD Off-Rd. This sucks. I went in today to talk to someone and the dealership is a mess. I couldn't talk to anyone but some sales kid... who said this might be the end of the dealership, hahahahaha. I doubt that. But anyway they also sell Nissan and the kid said this whole situation has blinded the public and now everyone that wanted to buy a 2010 Taco is trying to get a 2010 Frontier. Said its very difficult to get Frontiers right now. Weird how things go.

I really like my Taco but I'm disappointed sorta. They said to come back on Monday! The place was filled with people freakin out about their Toyota. I think people need to chill out. There were at least 20+ people there complaining about their Toyota whatever and one guy was demanded they take back his brand new car so he could go get a Honda!

I have exactly 1 year left on my lease. I am willing to bet (hoping) that this round of problems causes Toyota to start whipping their QC back into shape. I still love my Taco and I fully intend on getting a new one (this time with 4x4!).

I've had practically zero issues with my 07 DC v6.... except bottoming out when I had it loaded down, but the springs TSB fixed that. Had the front rotors machined but that's wear and tear. And of course The Lurch which was annoying at first but something you get used to.

mine was NUMMI built. may they rest in peace.
