first off i feel heart broken.

Took my 2010 Tacoma to the dealership today for the infamous frame inspection. turns out the condition does qualify for the frame swap. AFTER EXPLAINING THIS they noted that the extended warranty expired Feb. 6 2022 and quoted me for 18k! I went in for inspection April 4 2022. i was under the impression that the time allotment for this process was based on manufactured year, not some random ass date. I missed it by 2 freaking months.

I immediately called Toyota and spoke to a CS rep, explained the situation (calmly) - obviously they told me the same thing, recommended i should get it replaced, but told me since i am inquiring outside of the extended warranty timeframe they could no longer advise on next steps and promptly hung up.

I am severely disappointed, as I absolutely love my little red beast and don’t want to part with her so prematurely. Dealer said I should be fine… but would most likely not hold up in the chance of an accident (great) if i decide to forgo the replacement out of pocket.

i am not the OG owner and there for receive Zero communication from toyota regarding these dates/situations. also the fact that i’m off by a measly 60 days and they give NO GRACE is just disheartening.

    looking for:

    - similar stories & how did you overcome?

    - is my truck roasted and should i still drive it?

    - did you figure out a way have toyota provide a frame outside of the E.W. window?

    - Does anyone work at Toyota that can help me out!

    - moral support ( obviously my ignorance is part of this problem)

thank you for reading. here’s a pic of my cute little truck <3 as well as the frame pics, can provide more if you ask. fyi owned truck for 4 years every year clean and oil undercarriage for salt protection. everything on the truck has been well maintained, loved, cared for. 31502C15-C536-408F-9BFC-CE28AA5976E5.jpg

Did that area deteriorated that quickly from a year ago when you last clean/treated your frame?

good question, no thankfully this didn’t happen just in the past year. though i was just under the impression that spot like these were normal and there was nothing i could actually do except continue to treat it with rust prevention. i did not know about the recall or the extended warranty up until this week.

    dumb, i know.

I will look into going this route. I would much rather keep and maintain then to start over with a new vehicle. any insight you have with the use/longevity of these patch kits would be greatly appreciated.

Finding someone to patch it up is probably the best bet. You can buy safe t caps for the tacoma and have someone weld them in.

I just had the front portion caps welded on my truck. They came out looking really good. You just have to make sure the shop cuts out all your old rust before they weld on the caps. Autorust has a list of certified installers listed on their website, maybe you can look there to see the nearest one to you.

Oiling the outside is a half measure of corrosion prevention.
These frames rust from the inside.
Spray Coroseal inside using 360° wand extension on undercoating gun then oil after Coroseal dries.
Too late for Coroseal rust converter on outside because of previous oiling.

I agree, if you have anything fixed on the frame, make sure to coat it in fluid film to protect it for the long run.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you missed the window and it's a hard cutoff. Many have tried. All have failed. Why? Because as soon as anybody opens the window up, other people get left just outside the new window and the process keeps repeating itself. Said another way, exceptions lead to more exceptions. Save yourself the time and aggravation and resign yourself to the fact that all you can do is try to repair your current frame at your cost. Again, sorry, but that's the truth.
