I looked at a really clean 2010 Tacoma pre- runner today with only 25,000 miles on it. Everything looked and ran well. What are some common problems that I should be looking for on these? The frame has a coat of liner/thick paint on it. There was a little on the muffler so I think somebody did it after they bought new. Where are these welds for the frame that rust out usually are so I can check them out tomorrow? Anything else I should be worried about? Thanks in advance

Nice truck, we just found the same thing, a 2010 DCLB Pre Runner. It had 23K one owner miles on it, Timberland Mica color. The place to look for rust is near the catalytic converters. Not sure where you are located, but I can't imagine a 2010 should have much rust yet ? Check the rear leafs, and see if it has a 3 leaf or 4 leaf pack in it, these are known for being junk, especially the 3 's. If it does have a 3 leaf and they are flat, you may have some bargaining ground to knock off some money or install the TSB leafs before you purchase it. Good luck with it.

I am in salty Northern Ohio so I need to watch rust around here. They are putting it on the lift so I can check it out tomorrow. Just reading about some frames rotting out here scares me a little.

I bought the 2010 but have some questions. I have a hitch with 6 prong plug in. Did they have tow packages that come with Pre-Runner's ? I am just wondering if this was put on after the factory. I do not have the window sticker to look. What would be something else I can look at for to see if I have a certain package?

Tow package would include a 7 pin connection as well as an oil and transmission coolers ... look for these in front of the radiator ... small little vent looking things for lack of a better description ... the alternator should be a 130 amp

I had a 2010 PreRunner, DC, V6 and it was a pretty solid truck. Some things that stood out as different from my '14, TRD-OR, 4x4, DC are.

-'10 Had really soft brakes, almost had to stand on them to get the truck to stop or slow. Had Toyota check, and verified with a close friend who is a foreman-mechanic at a Mercedes dealer, that this was normal.

-The truck needed a new HVAC motor about a week after I purchased it used, mine had 54K miles when I bought it though.

-My '10 V6 had a fairly audible engine tick, and would ping going up hill or when the slightest strain was placed on the truck. I don't hear a peep out of my '14 V6 engine.

-The '10 had really soft springs (they were the 3 leaf pack) so I knew this going into the purchase. My '14 with the 4 leaf pack hardly squats, and handles a load much better.

-The '10 did get much better mpg's than my '14 though, but that could be the difference between 4x4 & PreRunner though??

-My '10 also felt quite a bit quicker, than my '14, but that also could be the difference between the weight of a 4x4 .vs PreRunner as well??

A couple annoyances about the '10, the steering wheel functions/ controls are considerably worse than the '12+ controls for what that's worth.

Also the aviator amber/red backlighting is terrible compared to the '12+ updated interior lighting.

The rear camera in the rear-view mirror is useless, compared to the version in the touch-screen.

The Bluetooth or hands-free speaker only played out of the driverside tweeter, (perhaps the other speakers were broken on mine??) but it always sounded like someone was yelling in my left ear when I used hands-free in the truck, so I avoided using that feature. The Bluetooth hands-free plays back out of all the speakers in my '14, I use it all the time and find it much better.

The seats (SR5) style in my '10 were 10X more comfortable than my '14 Sport/TRD style seats. The seats in the '10 were a velour like material and really comfortable. My lower back and ass are in sharp pain after riding in my truck all day in the '14. There is a protruding metal bar at the bottom of the seat back, that is constantly pushing into my lower back.

    Hope this helps.
