I have a 2010 Tacoma that has a blown head gasket so says the toyota dealer. He said the engine needs to be replaced and it would be about 6-7k. Does that sound reasonable? Sounds way high to me, and I even wondered if I needed to replace the engine for this. Thoughts?

You don't give much information to go on as far as what engine, mileage, symptoms so here's some random #s
    4cyl head gasket job 3k- 4k
Add a new head and valves 2k-3k
JDM low miles used engine 2k-2.5k
New 4L engine plus labor 8k-9k

It's easier for them to warranty a engine assembly than warranty a head gasket job. There's less variables when a new engine assembly gets installed.

Call them back and ask why they're suggesting engine replacement over a head job. Maybe they found some damage to the bottom end? Really need to ask more questions
