said it was due to the LED brightness and the angle of the headlights blinding oncoming vehicles.

They may pass inspection, but you're going to find that the amount of usable light they put out is pretty poor. @crashnburn80 can fill in the details.

Your “local mechanic” is doing you a favor by not installing those headlights. Ultimate headlight upgrade FTW.

Your mechanic is doing you a huge favor, you should return them. They will likely pass inspection but actually would be better if they didn't since they will be a catastrophic downgrade from stock and an actual safety hazard. Spyder is well documented as a horrible product in aftermarket lighting assemblies, they sell on looks but lack any actual lighting performance.

Those are not LED assemblies. If you put an LED in the halogen projector, then you will have even worse performance than the already awful Spyder halogens. With LEDs they will be downright dangerous to drive with. LEDs in halogen projectors do not improve performance, they just add more foreground light and reduce distance projection. However LEDs in halogen projectors will not add glare. See the headlight thread for all the info:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

Yes, complete garbage can pass inspection. It is still a massive downgrade from stock and far less safe than stock. Also no one that respects the outdoor community/lifestyle that is often synonymous with the Tacoma owners would support a brand like TacomaBeast.

I wasn’t. But I bought my truck used with them . But I looked to upgrade quickly!

    From Halogen Spyder:

To a simple no frills retro, passed on LED's and Halo's. Just wanted better light output.

The same shit everyone else has.
You can’t adjust the glare out of garbage headlights.
