On the way home today, noticed a gurgling sound coming from the dash. Checked the floor first expecting to see radiator fluid, but nothing. Noticed the temp gauge was pegged out at the high heat position. Then the lights came on.
Turned the heat on high to dissipate it but there was no heat coming from the vents and the temp gauge was slowly dropping back down to normal

Pulled into a gas station and popped the hood, with a little bit of steam coming out. Noticed hood compartment was wet with radiator fluid and the reservoir was empty and that there was a few drops of radiator fluid dripping from the blow out tube on the bottom.

Added some fluid and continued down the road, temp spiked again and then leveled out. Got a few miles before i heard the gurgling again so I pulled over and popped the hood with more steam this time. Called a tow and had the truck delivered to Toyota.

Since it was late in the day they took a quick look at it and found the seam on the radiator was leaking. Cost to fix $600+ They are going to check it some more tomorrow and try to rule out a head gasket.

Anyone had this happen to them?
    Any thoughts?

You can buy a new radiator from 'rockauto.com' for <$100.00 and it shouldn't take more than an hour to put it in... I don't know where the $600.00 figure came from. It's puzzling that the radiator failed, and yes, it's possible that a head gasket may have failed, but it's probably just a defective radiator...
