Just buy a stick. Yea, mine's an '05, but I got the 6 speed manual and wouldn't ever trade it for an automatic. Just get the stick and you'll be fine

I purchased a 2010 Magnetic Gray OF TRD 4x4 Double Cab last month and absolutely love it! I'm coming from a 4x4 4Runner and don't regret making the switch from SUV to pick-up. With the addition of a SnugTop truck cap, it's the perfect vehicle for the needs of my family. (2 year old, 5 year old, lovely wife and a 95 lb yellow lab).

I briefly looked at other pick-ups, Ford, GMC, Honda and Nissan and personally found the Tacoma to be a better fit for my personal needs (styling, fit and finish, options). Good luck with your purchase!

I have a 2010 and it's really growing on me. I'm coming from a 2006 Nissan Frontier that I reluctantly sold. I disagree with most on here comparing the Nissan.

First off, honestly, the Taco looks way better/rugged/aggressive, etc.. Also, many more mods for it. However, I feel the Frontier had a million time better transmission, and smoother/quieter engine too. Also, I feel the Frontier was quieter, driving more like a car whereas the Toy drives more like a truck. Also, plan on possibly upgrading the stock stereo and/or speakers.

The Toyota has a lesser quality of paint imo. But, the Toyota also seems like it will be MUCH easier to work on, and i'm hoping much more reliable. My nissan was great, just not as reliable as my Nissans of past.

Most importatly, for some reason I feel like i'm driving something "cooler" now in my Taco. I just hope the tsb for the 2010 transmission comes out.

FYI 2009 and 2010 4x4 Tacomas come equiped with TRAC which is Auto Limited slip differential combined with VSC. Its the equivalent to having LSD front and rear. Unstoppable, close to having lockers...almost

I love my truck, but at the same time, there are questions arising about the potential for frame rot with the 2nd gen. Tacomas as with the 1st gen. Now whether that is founded or not, time will tell...

I'm not worried about frame rot - the facts i have seen limit this to bad batch of steel years ago, plus they proved responsible to correct if owners had any problems - my father in law made out like a bandit on that one - got a new 08 taco for 4,000 and his old one. we are pretty biased on here. Every vehicle from every manufactuer will have issues. maybe some more than others... for every bad experience you hear remember there are hundreds of thousands of good ones. If you sit in a truck and love they way it feels and looks for you, than go for it.

I purchased a 2010 DC SB Prerunner TRD Sport 3 weeks ago. I had a '02 Prerunner SR5 xtended cab truck for 7 years. Before that I had a '00 Tundra briefly (2 years). Just hated the fuel mileage on it. I love Toyota trucks! I researched the '10 pretty good and have watched the progress of the 2nd generation Tacoma's since '05. It was time for me to get a roomier truck. The '02 was a very good truck and was not wore out at 125k miles.:D I love my 2010!!

I just bought a 2010 Tacoma, short bed, double cab, 4x4, 4.0 liter V6, 5-speed auto, TRD sports extra value package w/ JBL, Black Sand Pearl.

    I love it! :yay:

It is about 100x better than the 09 Subaru WRX that I sold because it was a complete POS. Blew a motor in 3500 miles! Problems continued from there...

This was my WRX ----> :boom::bananadead:

I hear you... like I said, I love my '09... just a little worried, that's all. I traded a 2004 in that had seen it's share of salty winters to avoid that problem. I shall remain optimistic!

We looked at 1/2 ton trucks and midsized trucks. We decided on the Nissan titan if we were going to get a 1/2 ton.

Honda ridgeline didn't have a low range, wasn't a true truck.
Chevy colorado felt too slow and cheap.
    Ford ranger felt very dated.

Came down to the Tacoma vs. Nissan Frontier. My wife has a 2006 Nissan Altima and it's been a great car. I read that the engine and transmission are sweet it the Frontiers, but the one we test drove was a dog. Had no pickup and go. We didn't think too much of it, figured it was just "that" specific truck. Seats were much more comfortable in the Frontier. Rest of the interior felt cheap. Nissan dealer had a used Tacoma in stock and we test drove it. We left the dealer leaning towards the frontier.

I started surfing online on the frontier forums and I noticed a lot of people complaining about problems. Not just minor problems. Engine timing chain tensioners like to go out and they are expensive to fix. Electrical problems with the IPDM causing the vehicle to not start. Shortage of IPDM's yet Nissan won't admit there is a problem. Rear diff failures. The list goes on. A big part of the list is Nissan denying warranty claims.

We ended up with the Tacoma because it's more reliable and re sale value is better. I think all said and done my Tacoma was $3k more than the Frontier PRO-4x I was looking at. Growing up my family belonged to a toyota 4 wheeling club with our FJ-40. I was always impressed with Toyotas off road. Eventually I plan to lift the truck and wheel it. There is a much bigger off road following and parts availability for Tacomas. The Tacomas do have some minor problems. But I'd rather spend a few bucks on an AAL to fix the sagging rear on a Tacoma then drop $1k to fix a timing chain tensioner on a Frontier every 40k miles. I have 500 miles on the Tacoma and the heater fan is making an annoying noise. If the dealer gives me any crap I'll just pull the glove box off and fix it myself. I can handle small annoyances like that...

I wish the Tacoma had power seats, more comfortable seats, heated seats, heated mirrors, rear audio/climate controls, sunroof, factory remote start, and a power rear window. But its all stuff I can live without. It's a Toyota not a lexus. My wife jokes that the Tacoma would be perfect if it had Frontier seats.

Been wanting one for years (had a reg cab back in 2000 when I lived on Maui) and now find a great one. Been looking for a Crew TRD sport w/ cd/tow. Saw a red one at the local dealer yesterday, but has $300 floormats, and the $699 toyoguard package. They want $26597 + 699 dealer fee. Am I just out of it but never paid $699 for a dealer fee. Also for black friday there were only a few people there. If he takes my price great but if not guess I will wait, as its not a required purchase. Hopefully though as its a sweet looking truck.

$599 was my dealer fees. Suprised to have to pay tax on that nonsense. Toyoguard, I'm in the south and don't think I need it. Bought $8.00 can of 3m scotchguard. If they don't have what you want exactly then don't pay for it and don't let them think you should. I used buying service and also looked at edmunds. Use those prices for a start. Also, try truecar.com. Let's you know what others are paying. I paid $23466 for SR5 DC before tax & tag. Just to give you an idea.

Is that what is on the sticker, or what you worked them down to?
    Where I am, a 2010 dc offroad (or sport) 4x4 sr5 sticker at 31,500
is this it a regional thing, or is msrp the same everywhere?

Sticker was $28763 + 700 dealer fee. Its such a nice truck but really so hard to buy right now as there is no real incentive. APR's are high and there is no rebate on a truck with new cupholders. And I am so sick of these "salesman". When he emailed back yesterday the base price went up because he quoted me for a longbed vs the shrtbed. I was giving him model #'s and he said my information was wrong (I said it was a 7188, he ssaid that was an '09 while the '10 is 7190 which really was a longbed). Oh well if it happens it happens, if not in the spring.
