    So...

3500 miles on it. Like everything about it now, except:

At 1800 RPM or so a fast, light (harmonic?) type vibration occurs in the steering wheel and it disappears around 2100 RPM -- only when accelerating. Since new and stock, but starting to concern me a bit since my previous Tacos (2) didn't do it.

Is this a standard deal with the 4.0 and automatic?

First auto trans I ever bought.

I know other people must be familiar with this.

This is NOT the 15-25 MPH shudder thing. More subtle, more possibly insidious....

    BTW

Got the leaf spring TSB. Feels right, like a truck. Bilstein 5100s also worth it IMHO.

I have a '10 SR5 4x4 and don't have this problem. Do you have in 4 wheel drive when it does this?

    In 2WD - a vibration, a hum, like a -- a vibrator.

All speeds, all gears, always the same RPM range, only when gas is applied. The truck isn't really shuddering or anything, just a buzz in the steering wheel through that RPM range, sometimes more pronounced than others.

I drove the a brand new 4.0 truck off a sales lot with the 6 speed manual and it didn't do it. The manual sounds weird in lower gears, but doesn't have the wheel buzz-feeling.

I had the wheels aligned and it made no difference. I changed tires and it made no difference.

I don't usually worry about things, but I just had a really bad experience with a Jeep JK - three engines in under 35,000 miles. What a piece of stinking garbage. So I went back to Tacomas based on experience with toyota trucks since the 1970's - all good.

Take it back to the dealer, let them fix it. It's not normal.

My 2010 tacoma is doing the exact...I mean exactly the same thing as ColdWaterTaco's truck. I have only 1000 mile on mine.
I did read in the manual that there can be sounds and vibrations (in steering)and vehicle body when the ABS, TRAC, VSC, brake assist and hill-start assist control system are operating...or on? My truck does have all these options.
Any other ideas? Suppose call to the dealer is in order.
