Well make yourself happy. If the ford will work then git 'er done. Basically anything you get will cost a lot and anything man-made has the potential of being a POS. Some have a higher probability than others...

Agreed with the 15 mph. I get around 16 now so not drastic difference. Read my post # 80. Is it your opinion that is not a fair trade-in price?
Also agreed with the parking issue - one of the reasons I am hesitating on the trade.

My F150 was basically stock with exception on dual exhaust, K&N, and canopy. Each of these adds brought on a minimal increase in fuel mileage (about 1/2 mpg per - about 15-16 around town). I read at least one person added a lift and 35 inch tires. The tires are a fairly large change from stock (around 31's) and a slight decrease in fuel mileage could be expected. Driving habits too.
I think your Toyota is always going to get slightly better fuel mpg. Also, you mention parking. If this is an issue then you should really consider keeping your current rig as a bigger truck such as the F150 is going to cause issues for sure. The backup camera in the Toyota is probably the single thing that makes this truck a blast for parking.
If the dealers want to make a sale they will work with you. The MSRP on the Ford is always negotiable and incentives/rebates will help. Get what you feel is comfortable in trade or don't make the deal.

    good luck.

So is it your opinion that the trade I posted in post #80 is "taking a huge hit"?

On that F250 I would wait until the 2011 models come out I believe they are changing up the turbo / intake configuration and I think this will make the truck much easier to maintain and may help with power as well. I was reading up on the changes due on the next rev of the turbodiesel on the superduties. Anyway research it some to get more info.

I think almost anywhere ya go there is going to be a minimum of a $3000 hit and most likely substantially more than that. Is that a "big" hit to take? I know it is for me but to someone else maybe not. In fact I think that a 3000 haircut is a given and would prob be closer to 4500. Vehicles are an excellent way to become poorer because they are worse than options as being a wasting asset. They are purely a liability. Go trade that thing in and find out how bad you get nicked. Tell us about it when you do por favor...

Oh BTW there is such a thing as correct timing. Any trade is enhanced by the ability to do it at the right time. Right now with all the news about the toyota recalls etc. the timing is just not right to be trading in a TOYOTA. Think about it. This is blunt but sometimes that is what it takes to get a point across to some people.

    back to bone stock.
my office as a bunch of new F150's nice trucks. all 2wd's and everyone gets about 16mpg,.

lightfire, if you are going to buy a ford, i would negotiate buying price without even talking about the toyota trade in. once you nail down a purchase price, bring up the toyota, and haggle, the trade in value. i hate car salesmen. they have all sorts of strategies to make you forget how much you are actually buying the truck for. first salesman to ask me, "so how much do you want to pay per month?" gets the cold shoulder, and i move on.

My KBB for Access cab trdor is 24,600 for a 2009. I am being offered a 37,800 list F150 for 4,200.
What do you think is the price I am being offered for my truck?

I think if the dealer can't show some pricing breaks for the F150 (at least 4 grand) and give you a reasonable trade for your 09 Taco say (22-24 grand) you definitely should be walking away.
Actually, best thing to do is negotiate the best deal you can on the F150 as if you are paying cash. At that stage never mind what you can get for your truck. You should be in the low 30's for the truck if they really want to sell (depending on how equipped).
You can always sell your Taco outright then come back and finish any deal. Sales are down right now for all brands, Ford is no exception. Don't be afraid to work a couple of dealerships. Also, if you can sell your truck outright you could even fly to a different state and in some cases get a better bargain.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
#1) w/ my 33's and armored up i get 18 highway....get u foot out the ga and keep it under 2k rpms ifits that big of a deal.
#2) the tailgate was/is fixed under a tsb and should be resolved by this point as i havent seen any updted tsbs for newer years.
#3) sounds like u've already made up ur mind and jumping on the recall hype and looking for justification, but i'm quite sure u wont find it here. save us some heartache and go get the ford, then start a new member thread when u come back w/ another 2010 or 2011 tacoma

This was 4 different dealerships. Best of them all was 4,200. My understanding is the 37,800 list truck invoice is around 32,500- 4500 rebates is 28,000 minus 4,200 is 23,800. I keep getting different answers on kbb.com as to the value of a 2009 TRd OR AC with towing package. Once it was 24 something then it went to 22 something now it is saying 23,400. I would expect 2010 to be 500 more. So, from this reasoning I need 500 more from the dealer. I wish KBB.com was consistent - wonder what is up with that?

I watch the rpm's and stay under 1900. Still do not get what you get for mileage. Both doors have started rattling at 3k miles. Last night I had some kinda surge that reved up to 4,500 Rpm while driving around 40 mph down a country road. It did not stick, but WTF?
Again, the tailgate's, even updated have been posted by many as denting when a load like a motorcycle was put on and one member of this forum posted that his reply from Toyota was that the tailgate was designed for a 180 lb man. Means 2 people can't sit on tailgate and if one weighs over 180 they will be past spec OR if you load anything over 180 lbs you will be past spec.
Recall hype? This truck isn't under any recall that I am aware of.

You should at least get 15,000 for the TACO , make sure you give full disclosure to the sales folk that it is a lemon or else I will :)

If I'm understanding correctly 32,500 for a nicely appointed F150 is a good price. Problem with KBB or anyone else at this time is they are all speculating on values for Toyota's. As far as what the dealer will give you in trade compared to what you may have paid 10 months ago or even 10 days expect about 10-15 percent depreciation on (Trades) the moment your new truck left the lot or whatever the dealer can get you to accept. There not there to help you with a great bargain, their job is to make money.
Also, as you appear to be determined I am including links to a couple of Ford Forums. Might help or sway you in one direction or the other with some additional info. Be aware, the Ford Forums are just like the Tacoma Forum in that there are some strong opinions/views on any thing you might wish to discuss.... Ken
