I’d skip a generation. Wait till 4 gen comes out.

I haven't heard much about 4th gen. Is there plausible design data out there? Year? Hybrid?

I have a 2010 that I purchased new. Its long since paid for, so it is essentially paying me a few hundred dollars every month now by saving me a car payment. The 4.0 is an amazing engine that will last for a long time and is easy to work on and maintain. I wish the gas mileage was better than 20 mpg, but otherwise it is perfect. I have 146k on it now, and am looking forward to hitting +300k and getting paid along the way. I love a high mileage Toyota that's been well cared for. Way better than a new vehicle IMHO.

Being sarcastic. The Third Gen seems to be hit or miss.

is your truck stock? Mine has about 3", full steel skids, 33" tires. Full roof rack, camper shell, etc. I get about 250 a tank. An ARB bumper and Warn M8 winch.

You are carrying a lot more weight than me, that might be the reason.

Am running 2.5 lift kit, 265's, prinsu, snugtop, all else is stock.

    It may be driver related.

I lived in Fountain for a couple of years.

I looked at some 3rd gens this weekend and frankly they aren't much of an improvement over the 2nd gen, except for things that SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE on the 2nd gen (like tailgate lock, leather seats).

The cab body is the same, bed is the same composite fiber so no improvement there, front clip looks more aggressive but it's just body work.

drove 2019 few weeks back. love the new features that my 05 trd offroad doesn't. I would really love an adaptive cruise control...anyway to retro fit? passive entry with push button is also nice

Nope. You'd need thousands of dollars in camera and computers and wiring harnesses to get that.

Thanks for the service! Fountain pretty mild. Come down to Texas. There is nothing cold down here other than the beer.

I get 290 a tank here in NYC on highway driving. 220 city driving. Your truck is acting normal

Thanks. Fountain is not that bad, am just chasing bikinis, I went to Daytona Beach last week and loved it.

2,000 miles on the Tacoma, not problems, maybe my good mileage was due to highway at steady speed and easy on the pedal.

I do miss the locking glove compartment and gas tank that my first gen had. Not sure why they dropped that stuff on gen 2?

The 2020’s will not adjust shift points. It is a necessary evil for Toyota to get the best possible EPA rating and that matters a lot more to a manufacturer than how the car actually drives. The fact they included an ECT Power button that changes the programming to much better shift points is a legal work around.

I have two reasons to consider a 3rd gen:
    1) Power rear slider
    2) Collision avoidance systems.

If the shifting on the 3rd gen bothers you that much, get a manual.

I do like the power rear slider. Just not on the Tacoma. The rear window is so small and basically doesn't hold value. The Tundra rear slider is pretty sweet.

The more I think about my original question the more I don't want a 3rd gen. Money and finances aside, the real draw for me was the upgraded tech stuff in cab and the fact the driver seat actually modulates 1/2" lower. I never liked that the rear view mirror created a blind spot for me.

I guess I'll continue to be car payment free. Ba humbug. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
