So I went out of town and let my fiance take my truck to California. Sigh. This morning she text me said the AC stopped working.. they stopped for gas (Vegas to LA) and when turning the truck on she said the AC isn't working. The light comes on and everything but there's NO AIR. So maybe the fan is bad, compressor, mayne a fuze. Hopefully an easy fix

What should I tell her to do or look for or check? She changes her own oil so she's not too bad with vehicles but that's about the extent of her expertise. I don't know much about air conditioning units either so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Thinking she should check the blower under the glove box.. See if it's clicking or making funny noises. Make sure a cable didn't get hit by feet. Not really sure. There's a little resistor down there right. Hoping it is an easy fix.

If the Fan isn't blowing I'd suggest checking the resistor for the motor. had mine stop working but it turned out to be a loose wire. If its the resistor should be fairly inexpensive on Amazon. only a few screws holding that whole thing together. maybe A/C 480? (4 windows down 80mph?)

Yup it isn't too hot in Cali right now so she's just cracking the windows.

I'm hoping it's only the resistor and not the entire fan. She said the light is on, so it's getting power which could be a bad sign. She's going to call me in about an hour with more information.

Mine went out last fall and it turned out to be the resistor. Super easy fix. Less than 10 minutes thanks to the info listed above.

maybe have her just leave it off till further inspection by you or a buddy down in cali? not sure the negative side effects of having an a/c on without actually pulling air from it.... other than gas consumption from the compressor

Yeah it looks like a quick $30 resistor and 10 minutes of work could be a fix.... When the resistor goes out, does the AC light still light up in the AC controls? She said all the lights are on as normal, just no air at all. She only had a minute to talk, so I'll have more information shortly.

    Thanks Tan and Grimm.

Yea, all the lights and stuff will work with the resistor broken. Mine slowly went out. At first, only high speed would work and then a week later, no air at all.

I've read when they start to go the blower motor will "flicker" on and off (no light). maybe have her wiggle the resistor and see if it comes back on. I don't have any other suggestions atm.

That's good enough for now. I'll have her try that and report back shortly. Thanks again sir.

Ok so after wiggling the cables the AC came back on... For a while.

Today my A/C failed again. After flipping the switches a few times and turning from cold to hot, the fan clicked on again.

To be more accurate. Engine makes that "AC on noise" in RPM, lights are all on, AC light is on, but NO AIR is moving. After switching to hot it came back. Turn it to cold and it's now fine and blowing cold. However, I have a feeling something is going bad.

    Suggestions?

That sounds like the blower motor resistor. It's right next to the blower motor if you look from the bottom.

    Anyone else's thoughts?

Yeah the resistor might be coming and going. Should probably order it and have on standby. Still getting 95+ here in Vegas, for now

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe a mouse swirling around in the blower motor. [IMG] (not my pic)

The simplest thing to check is the fuses, no? Both the A/C fuse and the HEATER fuse are in that loop. A normal fuse would show a solid silver line through the top, where a blown one will be "cut in half"

If the fuze went out it wouldn't come back on.. it's going in and out.

That link doesn't work. Have one for the resistor. Thanks

This is what you need to fix your problems with the blower: A new resistor assembly and a connector plug, with part numbers on the package. See image below.

    Plug Number 82141-04M40
    Resistor Number 87138-04052
