got a 2011 tacoma, double cab, non JBL stereo..a while back the aux jack went completely out and stopped working..i removed the aux jack, took it a part made sure everything looked fine, which it did..put it back in..turned the car on plugged my iphone in a it worked perfect...went back to fm and then switched back to aux and nothing..cranked the volume all the way up to max and could barely hear it coming from the driver side speakers but nothing on passenger side..pulled the aux jack back out and disconnected it..plugged it back in and now the volume is normal/good but still only coming from the drivers side speakers...have seen the soldering tutorial but doesnt really mention if that is what fixes this issue...anyone with similar problems??

Yeah that happened to me, it was the 3.5mm audio cable from my phone to the auxiliary jack.

Those cables tend to break internally.

Try twisting the aux jack (male end) while listening to the stereo. Both at the car aux port and the port on the device you're listening from. If you notice it crackle or change, that may be the culprit. I sometimes have to twist the jack while it's plugged into my iPhone to get it to play clear.

This could also be the issue.

The stereo aux cable plug has one band for L channel and another band for R channel. Either you are getting a bad connection due to corrosion on the plug, or the wire is broken internally:

All good info here, the only other possible situation I've witnessed before is junk in the AUX port of the truck (lint, etc) not allow firm contact.
