the brakes on my 2010 w/11k does the same:
when going real slow to a full stop like when creeping along in heavy traffic

asked the dealer about it when I got the squeaky blower fan replaced last month
said they didn't hear it but after me having to sit at the dealership for several hrs I just wanted to get out of there and get back to hunting.

been doing it (brakes & hunting) for quite some time
but only when going real slow to full stop

this must be happening to others as well
    I just haven't found the thread yet:confused:

I mentioned this same problem to my dealership when I took my 2011 Prerunner in for it's 10k mile service two weeks ago. They took a look at it and said they needed to replace the brake booster. They ordered the new booster and I took my truck in this morning to have it installed. Four hours later, they pulled my truck back around from the shop and said the new booster was installed but it didn't solve the problem! The technician even grabbed a new Tacoma off the lot and drove it to see if he could duplicate the problem and guess what? That one did the same thing. The service manager said they have sent Toyota some kind of service bulletin asking for help with this problem and that they will get back to me when they hear of a possible solution. I will update you guys if I can get the problem fixed.

My 2011 does the same. Brake squeak when coming to a stop. The dealer told me I need a brake service. At 10,000 miles of almost all freeway driving. Bullshit. It isn't bad, so I have just put up with it. I will be curious to see if anyone finds a fix.

I have an 09 that has always done this as well. I just replaced the front pads and rotors (it was almost time anyway) thinking it would go away, but it didn't -- so I think it is coming from the rear because it doesn't sound any different.

Mine isn't bad, though, it's barely noticeable and only when easing up to lights/stops.

That sounds exactly like mine. It happens when easing to a stop and sounds like it is coming from the rear (not mine, the truck's).

2011 dcsb 4x4 does the same thing....less the 15k on it and its been like this for atleast the past 5k. It's definitely coming from the rear. Has anyone tried anti seize or anti brake squeak under the shoes?

Does this sound occur only when applying the brakes?

Suggest pulling the front brake pads and adding a thin coat of CRC brake-quiet to the pads + re-lubing the caliper bolts with the proper lube. I would also lightly sand each side of the rotors and pads to clean and allow their surfaces to re-burnish and mate again. Dust and dirt from the road or course your driving could also be causing that noise. Factory or machine-oil coatings are supposed to be washed off the rotors prior to to installing, and if its not washed off it will normally burn off.

Something you could also try immeidately is applying firm brakes from 45 mph to a stop, about 3-4 times in a row to get those brake temperatures increased rapidly and clear off some of that pad material. Of course, only do this without traffic around and also while trying to avoid engaging the ABS.

The rear brakes would be making a scraping or banging noise if there was a problem with them, so I doubt if its them.

I have a 2012 with 5,000 miles. Mine have squealed when cold and reversing since the day I bought her. Knock on wood but the last day or two haven't been as loud.

I had a Toyota "case manager" that calls me about once a month on this. He claims Toyota has a tsb that's about to come out for it. Of course he has been telling me that for 3 months now... he also claims there is a driveline vibration tsb that's coming out before the end of the year... yeah, better get moving on that one buddy. The crazy part about it is that everyone he calls he starts mentioning Toyota buying back my truck! Wth? I'm half tempted to tell him yes if they don't have at least one of the fixes next time he calls. I tell him everyone that it would be a great truck if it just didn't vibrate and squeal down the road... maybe I'll take him up on the buyback offer just to see what he says

I've only got 800 miles left on my free ToyoCare warranty. If these TSB's are released after my warranty expires, will Toyota still repair them for free? I've already been to the dealership about the brakes and even paid them to balance my tires to try to get rid of the vibration on the hwy.

As long as the dealer you have been going to has it on file that you have these problems now, they should fix it at no cost. You should contact Toyota 800 number and open a case with those issues. They will give you the case number and you can explain that its been going on for however long. That way they will have it on file there. Just cover your bases.
