    2011 DCSB Build
Bought at the end of November for 18k with 133000 miles on the odo.
-2021 was a rough year for my love of Tacomas. I get back from my fourth deployment and lost my baby, my Black 2010 DCSB to a negligent driver speeding across the highway who even got out of his vehicle and said “No Hard feelings man, I was just in a rush and didn’t look where I should have.” ….Quite upsetting. I picked it up bone stock before this INSANE chip shortage at $12,700 in 2018.

Current Truck as of April 25th, 2023

-Desperately searching, and hardly sleeping, within two weeks I found another 2010 DCSB this time it was red, already had all the bells and whistles to include a supercharger. It had a two inch lift, 31s, and a tonneau cover that I wasn't a fan of so I swapped the lift for another 6" RC, this time with their new Adjustable Vertex Coilovers with resies, removed the bed cover, and put 35s on.....I was loving it!
    20210705_153924.jpg
But unfortunately the love didn't last very long when I ended up loosing that truck too on my way home from training at 3am when I hit a deer that flipped me into a ditch only owning it for two months. It’s still a sore subject to want to talk about what I paid during the chip shortage for this one.

-Depression set in pretty hard. I felt hopeless, and that life was being unfair. It was honestly super embarrassing because it was two totals within six months. Who does that? Granted they were both beyond my control, but man was I frustrated. As most of us here can say losing a truck can feel like losing a limb or a part of your soul with the amount of work and dedication, we put into them. I’ve owned now (7) toyotas from pickups to tacomas over the years.
-I wouldn’t take no for an answer, it was pay $6000 and never see what I put into the truck again or pay $11,000 and get it back in my drive way. With the money saved up, the wife and I decided that I would buy it back, especially with considering that the super charger alone is worth -$5000 new, I still had a 6” Rough Country Lift, 35s, ARB Lockers, ARB Compressor, Sliders, All-Pro Rear, Warn 8500 with a Synthetic Line, and an Engine/Tranny with only 129k on it. It was a scary gamble, but the smart decision.

-I bought all the parts to fix it, sent it down to our INCREDIBLE local 4x4 shop down in Wilmington, NC Low Range 4x4 to give me a realistic estimate with USAA quoting everything from matching Impulse Red Paint (The priciest) to them locating an ARB Front bumper for me (Yeah, no thanks, I’ve got thousands of Taco-Bros here on TW who would hook me up)
-In Fact I ended up finding a dude on here with gutted front fenders, gutted/trimmed bed panels, a snorkel, and a HC Swing Gate rear bumper for an amazing price. In my mind it was a matter of wrenching. @IvanhoeTaco
-With Low Range being the stand up guys that they are, knowing how much my Tacoma meant to me, rather than charge me $600 to start slapping on replacement suspension parts that I requested they swap out. Rather than doing it and charging me they stopped once it was back on all four wheels and they asked to send it to get the frame inspected.
-The Worst happened, the next shop said it was toast and that yet it is possible to replace a frame, but that they only install THEIR OEM parts that THEY order. $5000 for a frame, and an ungodly amount for the labor. Money wasn’t what bothered me at this point, it was not being able to find a shop within 200miles that would be able and willing to do it with me finding my own frame/parts.

-So now what? Well…..this is the build tread for the “Razor Crest” (Yes, I am a passionate Star Wars Nerd). It started with me buying back my Supercharged Taco from my bank with the pipe dream of reviving the poor rig. So I found a 2011 DCSB and it was even in Silver like the parts I got from @IvanhoeTaco!!

The dude I bought it from put "Fresh all-terrains on" So instantly I got myself a set of used tires because I wouldn't be seen dead with those low-ridah wheels

Once I tore the 6" RC lift and Camburg UCAs off my red taco, I swapped bed panels to the trimmed bedsides, the truck had been hit by a golf cart on the back passenger side so it needed the Brazilian butt lift!

Since May of 2021 I became the lead planner for a group of guys to hit the ultimate off-roading adventure. It was quite the emotional endeavor to get everything lined up, and between getting in those wrecks, working full time, college part time, Jiu Jitsu, and being a Husband this trip could not have come at a better time!!! It was almost like a culmination of all these crazy life events for me. I essentially immersed myself into a hobbyist-mechanic/Taco-radicalist and spent weeks tearing down parts, buying/selling/etc. It all lined up beautifully. I saved up a bit more cash and decided, well heck I put in a TON of work to get the old lift off my red tacoma, I deserve a break, so I'll take all my parts down to Low Range 4x4 and have them do the install. After all with stuff being in a wreck, why not have the Pros assess the integrity of recycled suspension. I painted my Brute Force Fab Hybrid and HC Rear bumpers in a rustoleom bedliner then went over that with a special "Cast Iron Coat" to give a dark silver/charcoal POP (Stole that genius idea from Ivan BTW).

Cameron Advanced Mobility (CAM) known by select groups within the government for being the premier austere offroad mobility training and expeditionary driving within the US. Kenneth Cameron, the founder, and lead instructor has created one of the most impressive venues that allow for a slough of different training opportunities ranging from advanced rock crawling, horsemanship, snow mobiles, dirt bikes/UTVs, and even tropical mobility out in Central America. The specific package that a few co-workers and I embarked on took us over 500miles from Grand Junction Colorado, through the Colorado Monument National Park to Moab, UT and back. Our trek partook in a ’93 Discovery-1 (Manual), ‘95 Discovery-1 (CONVERTED from an Auto to a Manual), 2005 LR3, and a ’93 Toyota Land Cruiser. We saw a some of the steepest routes that offered just inches of tire room to avoid catastrophic roll overs (Successfully), a River Fording, Soft-sand desert dune wheeling, Mud, Snow, Ice, and some of the most beautiful sites to be seen in the US over a five day overlanding adventure that we spent 10-hour days of off-roading to end each night at camp sites with top-tier instructors that combined over 125-years of experience ranging from Desert Racing, to US Team-Camel Trophy professional drivers.

We covered everything from driving manual, winching, technical rock crawling, ground anchoring, pendulum rig winching, field welding using car batteries and C-Clamps, water fording, cooking using the engine blocks, field fixes I.E.: Plugging radiators with food items such as eggs/oatmeal/black pepper and some alumiseal (AVOID SALT/APPLES), Pre-Post Maintenance, and how NOT to roll over in some of the spiciest situations. All in all, it was the most fun that I've ever had, even over skydiving!

Between now and June when I hit Uwharrie the biggest things I'm looking to acquire for the Tacoma are:
    -Crux Bridging Ladders
    -Pull-Pal RW11000
    -Dynema Whoopie Sling (Winch Extension)
    -Superline Soft Shackles
-Rugged Radios GMR45 UHF Kit (Emergency Line)
-BaoFeng Walkie Talkies (Vic to Vic)
-Juggernaut Phone Case Mount RAM Adapter (For Topographics/Google Maps off my Galaxy S21 Ultra)
-Tire Mounted Fuel Carriers (Either Rotopax or NATO cans)
-Blackout Curtains/Bug Netting (Camper shell I'm installing next weekend)
    -High Quality Tarp
    -Shake Siphon

Low Range 4x4, worth every penny!

    20220117_121325.jpg

    Progress they helped me with:
6" Rough Country with Vertex coilovers/resies
    Camburg UCAs
    ORW Body Chop
New Import Direct LCAs (Can't beat the O'Reilly registration/replacement warranty) 4xInnovantions LCA Skids
    Vertex/RC Rear Resi struts
    3rd Gen Leaf Springs/shackles
    Bump stops
    U-Bolt Shave
Brute Force Fab V1 Hybrid Front Bumper
Coastal Off-road HC swing Rear Bumper

Prior to dropping this all off just before heading out to CAM, I had removed all the suspension from red, degreased everything with dawn dish soap and AutoZone engine degreaser, then painted the LCA Skids, RC front Skid, Trans Skid, Cross members that Cast Iron....very pleased with how it resealed some scratches then really gave the lift/components that pop

Got my third gen RC seat covers installed. They fit AMAZINGLY! Highly-highly recommend them!
Also plugged in the pedal commander and am very impressed, it is the way to go if you are running 35s like I am, reminds me of reds super charger when it comes to response. I can't imagine how it'll rip once I get my SC put in

I'm looking at the 3rd Gen RC seat covers for my 2012. Any issues fitting these on 2nd Gen seats?

Got the camper back.....instantly prepped and Herculined it......going to do a cast iron coat as well since painting around these parts is cumbersome and I already had it all in the garage

Still need work, but it will do for the first attempt. Once the base layer 110% cures I'll see about touch ups, then mount it flush with the cab....also attached the Swing gate/spare!

So the more and more I have stared at a decked system, the more and more I have become obsessed with the concept.
I'm stealing a lot of inspiration from an old friend of mine @chuckers and his custom build of a bed drawer system

    This is HIS picture!
Luckily my dad is a part time carpenter so between our know-how's it's time to hit the drawing board!

Decked bed systems are sweet but they can't fit what I want and for $1500 it's not what I'm willing to spend for my needs
My bed system is now underway!
The rough draft of my blue print:

To translate my quick-hand chicken scratch
I'm making a deck thats flush with the wheel wells using:

    (1) 1/2" Blondewood Cabinet Grade Plywood (Drawer) - $32.50 (50% Off)
    (1) Redwood 4" x 1" x 4ft Plank (Drawer Face) - Free
    (3) 1" x 14G x 20ft Square Tubing - $108
    (1) 1" x 1/4" x 10ft - $7
    (9) 1/4" x 2" Hardware - $3
    (1) Loctite PowerGrab Ultimate - $10
    (1) 40" Heavy Duty Drawer Slides w/locks - $80
    (2) Single Folding Mattresses - $73.50ea
    (1) 1" Staples 100 pack $10
    (1) Roll of 2" Adhesive Velcro - Free
    (1) 3" Desk Wire Routing Cap - Free
    (1) Half Gallon of Sparurathane Outdoor furniture sealant -$25
    (4) 4 1/2" Hinges - Free
    (2) 48" L-Tracks - $94
    (6) Rated Track D-Rings - Free
    (1) Hooke Offroad Bed Stiffeners - $47 (Needed to go with these because of the way they mount mid pillar)

    Goals:
    - Single Drawer System for Recovery Equipment
    - Conceal a iM3100 Rifle Pelican Case
    - Route Wiring/Use of AC outlets
    - Sleeping Deck for the Wife/Myself when we camp/hunt
    - Weight bearing deck to still use the bed for heavy loads
    - Maintain the ability to hang pouches on my RC Molle Bed System
    - Clear my Hooke Bed Stiffeners
    - Look Cool....let's just be honest, it's a fun project
