I think he meant that it probably wouldn't be fixed by the tsb right from factory.

Jeezus. I have ZERO problems with my tundra. I have a 2010 with no TSB done.

If it was the 5.7 Tundra v. the 5.4 F-150, I would say Tundra all the way. However, for what you want and what you're looking at, I would have to say the Ford is the way to go.

After driving a Tundra almost daily for a little under a year, I would say it's a great truck. It's big and I live in a small town with even smaller parking lots, that sucked. The other issue, for me, is putting the 5.7 in the Tundra. Amazing engine, but the Tundra is the size/weight of a 3/4 truck and is pretty much the same size-wise next to my buddy's F-250 Super Duty. It needs a diesel IMO.

NICE! I need some man tires and a lift! I'd never get it in the garage in winter though :(

It is a big truck, and I live in a town with tiny parking spaces too. I ended up buying a little cherokee for around town duty. I don't get the point in wanting a 4.6 liter over the 5.7. The gas mileage is about the same. You need the bigger engine to move the truck!

Well Ford is officially out of the question now, I have failed in my attempts to sway my dad towards ford. Not that's a bad thing, but It'd be nice to have a F-150 lol.

Now you say that about the 5.7L V8, We're planning to get a 4.6L V8, I've been reading the MPG differences aren't that drastic between the engines though. However, based on what you said would the 4.6 feel underpowered?

Can't really go wrong with either.

The Toyota would have a little better overall build quality throughout though.

    4.6:
    310hp@5600
    327tq@3400
    15/20mpg

    5.7:
    381hp@5600
    401tq@3600
    14/18 mpg

thats a big difference in power for 1 mpg better.

I test drove the 4.6 with the salesman and it felt pretty good, but I didn't get on it that much. The 5.7 has 70 more hp and almost 70 more tq at similar rpms. My 5.7 could use more power some days, other days it's got plenty. I HAVE gotten 20 mpg mostly highway cruising 65 mph. My in town city only is usually 13-14. Mixed IS 15-17 REAL WORLD. DO IT

Yeah! Okay, See that's not much from the V6 in our trucks. City driving, best I ever got was 17MPG, usually 15-16MPG. Highway driving so far best is 20MPG, but that was mixed with some city driving as well.

Hold on guys, I have pictures from the Tundras I saw the other day.

I work at a dealership and I have been driving both models.... Let me tell you... The tundra doesn't hold a candle to the F-150 Ecoboost. HOLY SHIT that trucks awesome! The warranty is insane, talk about ford stepping up! but the interior is nicer on the tundra..... If you want a mall crawler get a tundra....

Tundras do not come with the e-locker.

Answering the OP's question about the 4.6 or the 5.7. If I was going to be dropping the coin for a new truck, especially one the size of a Tundra, I could not bring myself to get the smaller motor. Even if it seems like a good idea, a good majority of the people on my old Tundra forum wanted the 5.7. It's a great engine.

Really dude? Any truck can be a mall crawler. I've actually seen more POS mall crawling Fords than I have Toyotas. Anything can be a mall crawler.

HID lights, LED dome, map, door panels, Flowmaster exhaust, leveling kit, thats all i had money for right now.
This is what i think about tundra vs ford f-150. Tundra's are a big truck they do get less gas mileage around town and if you lift those bad boys they go straight down the drain to like 12-13 mpg. Now the new fords the past like 4-5 years have really came back and made a nice vehicle and the resell value on ford trucks has always been pretty decent.
I personally if i was going to get a full size truck would go GMC just because i love the look and power of those trucks, but to be honest i think the tundra is stuck between full size truck and diesel truck, the size and power of them with the 5.7l makes them almost like a f-250 or 2500, put a diesel in those trucks and bet they would sell out the roof. f-150 is a little smaller but def can be a sharp looking truck for sure.

The reason I say that is cause where i live people all seem to do the same thing, Tundra on 18+ rockstar rims, blacked out, and lifted retarded with stupid tires and chrome shocks and monster stickers all over....

I know anything can be a mall crawler, but usually people who mall crawl don't buy purpose built vehicles and reverse them..... Just saying I have never seen a hilux mall crawler, or a FZJ80 mall crawler.... ya know?

I know what you mean, but Mall Crawling is somewhat of an American thing. I bet you if they released the Hilux stateside, it would be a week before one was lifted through the roof or slammed to the street.

Here in Arizona I see it all. Phoenix is the worst because it's all bros with their parents money building ever major truck in some ridiculous manner so it looks the coolest in their high school parking lot. I've been with Jeeps since I got my license, so all of my vehicles have been built to serve their purpose, nothing more or less.

    Exactly haha

It's always a sad thing to see. If they ever look my way when I'm looking at their truck I always make sure to shake my head. It works better when I'm in my Jeep though...

My next truck will be a full size, but that wont be for awhile. If I were getting one right now it would likely be the F150. Nice exterior styling and the nicest interior IMO. Plus the 3.7L V6, Ecoboost V6, 5.0L V8, and 6.2L V8 are all nice motors across the board. If probably get an FX4 crew cab. Not sure if id go Ecoboost or 5.0.

My tacoma was about the same. It was slightly better around town, but worse while towing. Highway is slightly better in the tundra. Both 4x4 with tow package. Tundra has a 6 speed trans to help with the overdrive and highway mileage.

Doesnt hold a candle how? It has 20 more on the tq and 20 less on the hp. TQ comes on a good 1000 rpms before the tundra which is impressive. It must feel pretty good with that setup. It would have to feel pretty significantly different for me to say something like it doesn't hold a candle. I haven't driven it so I can't really say too much. As for my truck being a mall crawler, ha. I see more purpose built tundras than mall cruisers. Hell, mine did awesome in the mud, and it goes to a construction site every day. Currently:

    its packed!

I'll give my personal opinion on this statement. They wont sell diesel trucks as well as American diesel trucks. The majority of people who want 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are VERY brand loyal. I am Union so I am around the buy american mentality all the time. I know guys that love my truck, but said they will never own one because it is a Jap vehicle. Instead, they will continue to buy fords. I see it all the time.

The other issue is price. Toyotas do cost a bit more, not much, but a little more. People look at bottom dollar now. Toyota also projected way more tundra sales when they built that new plant...then the economy went to shit and everyone stopped buying new vehicles if they didn't need to.

The first Tundra was a joke. This new tundra is a great machine and slowly converting buyers. It's the extreme brand loyal people that are the ones they are gonna have to convince to jump ship. i KNOW the majority wont.

IMO, it's dumb to invest so much money into a whole new engine and bigger chassis when the sales might not be there. Just sticking a diesel in a half ton (true half ton) truck is NOT going to sell, otherwise the big 3 would be doing it already. Besides, who needs a diesel unless they are hauling every day? I almost bought a 250 diesel, but the more I read, the more horror stories I've heard. When I get a chance I talk to owners of 3/4 and 1 ton diesel trucks and not one seemed 100% happy with them. The fords seem to a have a lot of problems, even with their new one. They have features like exhaust cleaning and other things that kill the power with no warning and smokes like crazy. Other brands you have to put some extra additive in a tank for the turbos. The tree huggers and EPA make it so hard I wouldn't be surprised to see the big 3 stop offering and going to more turbo gassers.
