Here are some ideas of what trails are available in each of the areas. Pink is FS roads, greeen are unmaintained roads or roads that may not be accessible due to locked gates, etc

I heard back from the MT 4x4 people and will get more info from them this weekend.

    Lots of rust
My vote is the boulder Helena area. I've done some wheeling around there with Colter and its pretty good stuff. There's a trail from highway 69 over to whitehall called dunn Canyon and it was very interesting and fun, and a stock tacoma is all I have and I was just fine. We went last year exactly this time.

There's a huge difference between last year and this year around these parts...a friend of mine's property south of Avery that her and family camps on every year on Memorial weekend is currently covered in 7 feet of snow and an area I camped last year in June still has 17 feet!

I think you forgot the part where we had to drive around drifts and over a mountain to avoid the snow.

Thats my first pick too...seems like there is a higher concentration of trails in a small area. When you guys were up there do you remember seeing any good spots to camp? I do hope to have the time to make a quick day trip and scout things out a week or two before....

THe guy from the MT 4x4 mentioned that they get a group together on fathers day weekend (weekend after our meet) and go to that area as well and that they frequently run into snow. I don't think this year will be any different!

 You really want to drive across the country to hang out in the woods with a bunch of crazy Montanans?

That's my worry too!!! I think I'll leave my showshoes in my truck until July 4th...

A first gen could have gone through it :D :crapstorm:

^ The funny thing is he did and I almost rolled my truck cause it was just a bit to wide for the drift we were pushing through. Henry just drove right through but my inch wider wheel base started sliding off the road.

I just don't like waking up and realizing that my tent is about to cave in on me due to the weight of the snow that fell overnight.

...and I'm just kinda tired of snow. I've had my fill of playing in it over the past 7 months! I'm ready for some sun.

Sounds like we were on the same page all along. I wouldn't want to go above three. I would stare at a 4 and think about it, but wouldn't drive out to one without knowing about it first.
I like the Divide ride area, that sounds best. Keep up the good work!

Everyone...lets chime in with your preference of where to go (of my three choices or suggest another) and let me know if you need to be moved to/from the "YES", "MAYBE", or "NO" list in the first post...

Also I'd like to get an idea of what and who everyone is bringing...if you're going to have family etc with you just let us know how many people, if you're bringing any extra camping gear (ie chain saw, stove, grill, etc), recovery gear, igloo building supplies...

I just went up flathead pass on the quad and there is no way it will be clear in a month. Little bear is the same.So I think we might have to choose somewhere with a low elevation. But that said I plan to be there still with myself and maybe the gf.

I have the time off so I will be there. I also agree with the low elevation thing. I just don't think that the snow will be gone. It is still snowing everywhere at any elevation over about 6k.
