i have a 2010 reg cab 4x4 that has made a ticking like noise from day one. chris is right on the money here. a fresh oil change has the ability to quite it down a bit. while its not the smoothest mill out there i have complete confidence in it running for a good long while. i actually thought it to be a manifold problem or some type of exhaust leak originally as well. never asked the dealer about it though and don't believe i ever will. sure i would like it to sound like a bmw inline 6 cyl at idle lol, but it don't.

My 2011 makes that same tick since day 1, i now have 3k miles on it, it seems to be more so when its cold and seems to get drastically more quiet after an hour of driving. i don't hear it at highway speeds, only at idle or if driving along a curb i can hear it well. But this is my second taco, my first was an 08. It had a tick also but my 11 seems to be a little louder than my 08 was. I had actually stopped the truck and got out to inspect the first couples times, now i just ignore it. 2011 = Louder "Tacoma Tick"

I totally forgot about the tick. I'm either used to it by now, or it has gone away with age? :notsure:

Usually it doesnt bother me, but i had an exhaust put on the weekend i baught it so it had me concerned, but once i realized it wasn't from the new exhaust i quit worrying about it. A tick wont cause me to love my taco any less though.
