This thing is going to be a monster when it's out of the shop. Beautiful build man!

Thoughts on the trail gear 9" housing? Did you get a roller axle or?? Looks like east coast gear drive flanges but the rest looks like trail gear. Looking at getting one in the future.

Haven’t had a chance to test it out yet, guess time will tell. For the price of the Roller I don’t think you can beat it, sure beats the stock 8.4 axle. Only real “issue” we’ve ran into so far is not being able to use the ABS/wheel sensors

If you can, can you take more pics of the engine bay where the wheel wells were tubbed please? I need to tub mine for the 35s. Trying to determine if the components will have to be relocated or get ideas on how to do it.

Only pics I have right now are on page 3. I’ll try to get some more next time I see the truck. With you being long travel and only going to 35’s you shouldn’t need to tub much. As my truck sits right now nothing under the hood needed to be relocated or has any clearance issues, and that’s bump/lock with the 37’s. Check a couple pages back and you can see the small are along the upper Inner fender that needed to be taken out, replated, and welded up

Thanks for the reply! I am going off those pics on page 3, but I think I'll have to remove the coil over spring and cycle the suspension like you to make sure. Some local guys keep mentioning I have to tub, but then I keep thinking about your setup, with 37s, and I'm thinking I shouldnt need to tub it out. I have a small cab mount chop already, but may need more along with some cutting back on that foot well area, like yours. It's rubbing now, and I dont think I can get too much more caster from my setup.
An inch or two of lift might help them to clear, but I was trying to avoid was lifting the truck by pre-loading the springs. I would make for a stiffer ride, and rob from up-travel.
If Camburg ever came out with their 4x4 spindles, I'm sure it would solve some of these issues.
Thanks again for the reply and taking the time. Your truck is coming along great!

This is great! Do you have any pictures of your upper link? Do you have it going to the factory crossmember? Thanks

Sorry this is the only picture I have right now. Unfortunately only got to see the truck for a bit when I took this but next time I see it I’ll get you a better pic and let you know the mounting location!

Wow, the distance from your lower to upper links at the axle is very minimal, did you mock it up in any of the link calculators ?

Do NOT run your third to the OE cross member unless you completely box it in and reinforce it with kicked bracing made out of tubing. The OE cross member is not strong enough and it will tear completely...ask me how I know.

I haven’t done any of the actual fabrication on the truck. I’m gone between 220-280 days a year with work, not to mention I do not have any skill when it comes to welding and fab work. All the credit for the fabrication goes to Scott at Metalwerx Fab here in NC. I had a hard time finding a good shop on the East Coast that was willing and possessed the skill/knowledge to build a quality long travel truck. He has a racing background, and being on the East Coast builds a lot of full tubed rock buggy’s and what not. I think the Tacoma is a nice change of pace for him. No clue on how Scott set up the geometry of the 3 link but I’ll be sure to ask next time I’m at the shop!

I would never do that. You have any pictures of that carnage? I'd love to see it.

Sorry no pics but it was reinforced and even had a tube brace from the boxed portion where the tabs were to the inside of the frame. The inside layer of the frame tore too right where that brace was welded to it ! Basically there was constant flex in the cross member and it ended up snapping clean through.

Bed compartment is getting buttoned up. Batteries, compressor, jack, and latches are installed. Axle just got back from powder coat as well. Waiting on Solo Motorsports 4x4 XLT kit and Tundra rack for the front.
