2011 Tacoma rust

Hi there
I’m a new to Tacoma (live in Canada)and thinking to buy 2011 Tacoma DC LB 230,000km mileage.
I looked bottom of them.
It looks quite rusty.

So I have questions.
1. Should I rust paint ASAP if I buy?
Or I don’t have to care that rust much?
2. Is it possible to cleaning it those rust under the warranty by Toyota?

I’m happy, get any information if anyone have same experience like me.

Wouldnt bother me, here in quebec thats pretty normal rust due to winters,

 

My brothers 2001 Tacoma frame did not even look bad, and in 2005 or so they called him in for a frame inspection to see if rust has compromised the frame. When the tech tapped on the frame it went right thru. My brother was shocked as it did not look bad. The frame rusts from the inside out.

I would would ask the owner if he would mind if you tapped some areas of the boxed frame with a hammer or punch. This may give indication if the frame is rusted bad from the inside out. Just how my brothers frame was.

If the frame passes and you buy it, I would use a wire wheel on the frame and respray it with rustolem. Then fluid film the inside (with extension wand) and the outside to protect from future rust.

 

Frame warranty for 2005-11 trucks is 12 years, so you've got until sometime in 2023 (depending on when your truck was originally sold) to have the frame replaced/coated. If you buy it, take it in ASAP and worst case scenario they will say it passes and give you free rust protection.
