    Hello,

I have a 2011 Tacoma 4x4 double cab automatic with a stretched out shifter cable, rendering the truck inoperable. Toyota has them back ordered forever so I ended up getting one off eBay. The part number I got from my local Toyota dealership matched the one on eBay (3382004010).

Well today, my mechanic said the new cable was the wrong one. He pointed out that the end of the original cable was white and the new one was black. And he said the plate on the end of the new one didn’t line up with the screw holes on the truck. The guy I bought it from said that the color makes no difference and that it should fit. A second after-market place also said that the 2005-2011 Tacoma cable shifter they sell should also work and also said the color shouldn’t matter.

So, I don’t know who the hell to believe. Tomorrow I’m going to actually look at both cables to see if they’re actually different. Either my mechanic is wrong or the place I got it from is.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Looking at 'what this fits' on the first rand Toyota dealer's site that popped up on Google, sure looks to me like it says 'fits a 2nd gen Tacoma'... or at least anything 6-lug, anyway.

I can't think of any reason for it to have changed, especially not the last year before a slight redesign (which itself doesn't look like it resulted in a change anyway)

Thank you. Yeah, I’m starting to doubt the place I have my truck at now. But isn’t this pretty straightforward?? If the garage is actually wrong I’ll hade to have it towed somewhere, which is kind of a drag.

Sounds like the typical junk aftermarket parts, sometimes they can be made to fit with minimal modifications other times not.

    I believe Toyota.
I looked on the actual Toyota parts website.
It says that # IS correct. - 3382004010

Thanks. Then the place I bought it from either sent the wrong kind or the garage is mistaken. Hopefully find out tomorrow when I compare the two.

Here's the problem: the connection plate on my original shifter cable and the replacement one don't match. The replacement one is too small. My mechanic is gonna try to get the plate off the original and use it on the new one. If that fails, I think I have a line on an original Toyota part that has the correct plate size.

Is the too-small plate due to bad after-market parts?

Is it supposedly aftermarket? Suspected of being aftermarket? I searched the number you gave, and didn't see any hint of an aftermarket one, even Chinesium, existing.

I'd be half curious if it's used (kinda looks it?) and from the wrong model? The 4Runner/FJ one looks the same in the drawing, but is definitely a different part number.
