    Hello Tacoma World,

I am a new and first time owner of a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4 V6 6spd Manual truck I have just purchased over the weekend. I have a question in regards to the optional OverDrive upgrade available for this model. I am new to truck so please excuse my illiteracy in most area of performances and upgrades. Which is why I am turning to veteran owners and expertises for advice.

I am geting conflicting suggestion and advice from several piers at my work in regards to upgrade and maintenance of my new truck.

First off I was told by one person that upgrading to the OverDrive module, which supposedly will provide me with roughly 300 horse power would also increase my truck milleage. Where as a couple of others told me the complete opposite that I will get less milleage as well as over working my engine componeents. I tend to agreed on the later but I am looking for more advice and input.

Secondly Toyota told me that I do not need to worry about doing my first oil changed until the truck reach 5000 miles or 6-months. Where as a few veteran truck owners at my work said it is best for the life of the vehicle for me to do the initial oil change once I reach 1000 miles to clean out the intial oil that contain many deposit from a new engine.

I am open to any advice that would help me to maintain the life of this vehicle. Lastly, I love this Truck! :) I always wanted to own a truck and finally I got one of the best model out there.

    Kind Regards,
    Vinh Le

The 1GR-FE engine and TRD supercharger were designed to work together from the beginning. Engine life isn't an issue. The supercharger is even covered under the Toyota powertrain warranty if it's installed by a dealer. It's an expensive upgrade ($4500 MSRP for parts alone) and you will be forced to use premium 91 octane gas thereafter.

Very nice! It is quite an expensive upgrade to add. Maybe down the line when I have some cashflow to spare.

Thank you for the great info KenLyns!

    Happy new year.
