I wouldn’t run a bigger tire if I already didn’t like my MPG.
Rolling resistance and weight of tire will affect MPG.

It is highly unlikely you would loose 5-6mpg with that little of a tire change.
But some loss in mpg can be expected.

You will lose maybe 1-2 mpg. But hey, you're driving a truck, dont expect stellar economy.

no ck engine lights and has plenty of power. Had one shop run a scan and said all is good except the tires. which i'm not satisfied yet.

If you have access to a scan tool.
Maybe see where the LT Fuel Trim is running?
My understanding is Toyota used a generous threshold
on our trucks before a CEL and code were shown.
Some say +20% all the way to +30% before CEL.

Something doesn’t sound right to me.
Anything lower than 15 mpg, unless you are HEAVILY modified, makes me start looking at stuff.

There are a lot of guys on here that are more knowledgeable about reading scan diagnostics.
Until they chime in, here is a good starting point.

Thank You very much. I just checked my speedo with a speedo app on my I phone, and when my truck was reading speedo at 70 mph I was actually doing maybe between 71 1/2 to 72 mph on my app.

    Tire rack quotes
    58lbs/tire for 285/70/17 and 50lbs/tire for 265/65/17. That is 8lbs comparing like for like LT t/a k02’s.

It gets way worse when you look at a 38lb/tire p265/65/17 hankook dynapro or 40lb/tire Michelin defender. 20lbs per tire!

Unsprung rotating mass will eat MPG alive.

Good point about weight. If one of your concerns when buying tires is MPG, stick to a 'C' rated tire to save on weight. My 35's are 'E' rated and tire+wheel is about 90lbs each.
