I've decided to keep my 2011 Tacoma indefinitely. Bought it new, it currently has 160K miles on it, is in great shape for its age and I'm only driving ~500 miles per month these days.

That being said I'm anticipating that at some point it may need the automatic transmission replaced. Does anyone know about how much it costs (parts and labor) to have the automatic transmission and torque converter replaced or rebuilt on a 2nd gen Tacoma in Texas? I'm in the Austin / San Antonio area but also spend time in Dallas / Fort Worth.

Have you felt the transmission slip or act erratically? Or why does this idea come to mind? Cheers!

No, it's just that I keep cars for many years / miles and I've never had a transmission last more than 200,000 miles. (Not worried about the engine, it runs perfectly and uses less than a pint of oil every 5000 miles.)

I've been around here for a handful of years now. Can count on one hand how many 5 spd autos I've read about actually needing a rebuild

I would be more worried about the paint and clear coat then the tranny in the long term.

    k cool, what car
    a POS ZF 01V in a B6 A4 3.slow is not the same as a good ZF 5AT 722.6 or whatever it’s called in a W210 E320.

    maintain it

just saw a video of an 08 Tundra 1m miles original trans
Plenty of auto Toyotas out there 300k+, and other brands as well if it’s not a turd of a trans

if it does need work in 10 years, quality work is exclusive to quality shops, not Texas. They may or may not happen to be in Texas.

Different story with the bulletproof A750 platform. If you feel like doing something for peace of mind just do the pan drain/refill with ATF-AWS and you are solid. The damage I have seen on these transmissions usually it’s due to major abuse or physical damage.

Unless you abuse it, let it overheat, or are just unlucky I'd expect at least 400,000 miles out of the transmission. I was told $2000-$2500 for a rebuild here in GA.

Yes, just passed 515000 on mine, all original expect for the filter and a few fluid flushes and drain /fills. Highway miles.
Maybe I shouldn’t talk about it so it doesn’t figure out it shouldn’t still be going strong…..

I consider it all maintenance since nothing lasts forever but I’ve been throughly surprised by some things. Like my original alternator lasting well over 400k before it took a dump.
Please search my older threads where I’ve posted stuff like that.
    Thanks
