Hello I am new to the forum. I have a 2012 Tacoma with a 2Tr engine. I know about the cold knock with these as I had a 2009 and it had a cold knock. But this one will have knock sound from the time the temp gauge gets up the the first line until the engine reaches full temp. After that it goes away and runs smooth. So has anyone have had the problem with there Tacoma 4 cylinder? I suspect since in goes away when fully warm its not a bearing knock, made piston slap? Anybody know what it is?

I do have this, and have always attributed it to piston slap. My wifes Honda does the same thing. The light knock always goes away when water temps hit around 140*F or so. It's not something most people seem to notice, but of course, many with the 2TR don't notice the Shop Vac whoosh of the air injection pump at startup, or the fact that the engine races to an uncomfortable 2100 RPM's at cold start either.

I changed out my plugs, air filter, cleaned the MAF and throttle body, nothing has helped. I've just learned to live with it.

How many miles does your truck have? Has it since new?
I cannot tell if it would be a rod knocking because if it rev it sligtly the engine sound drowns out the knocking, which I believe it under a higher RPM with a rod knock it would get louder. Unless the oil pressure bumps up and gets rid of the knock. But I am lost...

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Mine used to do it often, but hasn't for a long time. I did some towing with it and ever since then it hasn't done it. But winter is just around the corner, that will be the deciding factor I guess.

I had the same noise on my 2005. It was bad lifters. Good luck. Toyota wants a fortune for them. Maybe you can find a junk yard. Mine noise is gone now. Whew
