As stated above, no problem going into 4Hi just going into 4L. I lock it into 4H keep it in N flip the switch to 4L, put it in gear and all it dose is sit there and beep at me. However on occasion if I'm lucky, it dose go into 4L. The truck has less then 12K on it so I'm kinda pissed this is even happening. I made a appointment for Tue to see what the deal is, anyone else experience the same issue?

The timing of the 4Lo engagement is key. I discovered this on my 5 Spd Manual.

You need to flip to the 4Lo position pretty promptly after pushing in the clutch pedal and shifting to Neutral. If you don't, the trans may come to a complete stop, and be in a position that prevents the gearing from moving into place under the solenoid's power. I don't think Auto trans models have this issue since the trans is always spinning in neutral due to fluid drag in the torque convertor. Personally, I grew up holding the clutch down while shifting transfer cases, so it's an old habit. (One possibly not needed nowadays?)

In that case, turn the knob back to 4Hi, let off the clutch pedal for a split second, then press it in and turn the knob to 4Lo again in quick succession. That should do it for you with 100% certainty.

You are waiting for 4lo to engage before shifting into gear aren't you? It takes a second...usually the beeping means you're just doing it wrong.

Make sure you turn the knob to 4hi...let it engage, then place the truck in neutral, clutch down (I believe, mine is auto), and engage 4lo...wait a second and the 4lo light will turn solid...that means it's engaged...if you put it in gear before it engages, mine beeps at me aswell.

Three things are needed before 4lo will engage.
#1. 4hi must be fully engaged, 4wd light no longer blinking
#2. Vehicle at a DEAD stop. Rolling even slightly will make it beep at you instead of completeing the range shift.
#3. Clutch must be depressed fully to the floor BEFORE turning the knob to 4 lo.

The same procedure apllies to shifting back to 4hi.

Make sure you are following the above, and if you are without good results, warranty should take care of your issue

When I got my 13, it was hesitant to engage. After a few times of using 4x4 it loosened up and engages smoothly. I learned that pitching the wheel side to side slightly can help. you must let 4HI engage fully first, be completely stopped in neutral, only then you can switch to 4LO.

    This.

OP does not mention pushing the clutch in. It will not shift unless the clutch is on the floor.

This fix "my" problem, I don't think I was pressing the clutch down when I was switching to 4L. I am so use to my old ranger, all I had to do is wait to engage to 4H and flip it to L. Now that I know I feel much more confident with my 4x4 system. I had a load of wood in the back yesterday and needed 4L to back up a steep hill. Luckily 4H was able to get me out but it was a real strain on the clutch.

    Thanks for the Help!!!
