I have this on my 2012, started at about 5000km, im up to 9000 now. First time at the dealer they said rear brakes lacked lubrication, performed rear brake servicing. It helped for a day maybe. I will going back with this TSB, thanks.

    Oh NO
    it does not cover 2010s

    just called Toyota Customer Service

They are going to call the dealer since I had originally complained about this very issue back in 3/2010 when I took it in for the leaf springs & fan motor. Even though it was squealing when I took it there, the mechanic said that it was not happening. three hours later as I took the truck off the lot it was doing it. I just figured that I was stuck with it. Besides I needed to get back out hunting that day.

    Thanks for the TSB info

Now I know I'm not alone with this annoying issue.

    Thanks again

I got this tsb done. They replaced the drums and shoes. It feels tighter in the pedal. No sound as of today :). It seemed to be worse when it was dry out though, will have to wait a few months when it stops raining to get the final verdict.

It took some fighting though. The dealership initially said my warrenty wont cover it beause there was dirt in my drums. And I did my best to pressure wash the underside of my truck from being in deep mud a few days before but they still saw some evidence of 4x4ing. But theres no way I was goona let them tell me my $40,000 truck, with off road package and 9 different driving modes cant handle a little dirt. So they ended up doing the tsb.

The idiots make an off road truck, then try to say you voided your warranty because you did what the truck wad designed to do... ha, I dont think so.

Dealer ordered the parts and did the job - took about 1.5hrs. my 2010 is still under warrantyw/20k miles. Even though tsb onlycovered 2011-2012 years the dealer & Toyota agreed to do the brakes. I think that's the 3rd tsb I’ve had done (brakes, leaf springs and cabin fan motor). I'm only sorry the hunting season ended just when I got the brakes done. Better late than never. :)

I wish I would have checked this thread earlier. The guy said that metallic pads are going to squeak. I will go in armed with the TSB at my 15k servicing.

i have gone in several times now with the tsb number and the dealership will not replace the system. they claim to not be able to produce the "squeak" even when i am with them in the cab and it squeaks. service manager claims that the squeak is coming from the front but they will not do anything about that either
whats a man to do ?

I called the dealership to tell them about the TSB and that i need it fixed because my brakes have been squealing like this since day 1 and they told me they would have to see the vehicle first since my VIN # doesn't fall within range on the TSB.

Any suggestions? Last time i brought it in for this noise, they said it is normal and that it was just the ABS working.

    never ending..
I talked to my dealer and he said for the 2012s they went with a harder pad.. mine has done it since the second week i got it when i took it offroad.. got used to it. still sucks but ill just replace the pads with different ones come the time. the dealer said since its a personal preference they wont do anything unless owners like us raise hell. I told him they could suck it. they wanted to charge me for cleaning the brakes when i bring it in for free maintance.. IDK i love the truck and its a minor thing.. but if we all raise hell maybe they will have TSB for softer pads

22k update* So Toyota replaced my drums and rear brakes through the TSB at around 10k. Today the squeak is starting to come back. This is ridiculous ill have to wait to take it in at my 25k service ..

Damn it! The TSB only covers 2010 to 2012. I'm having the same problem with my 2013.

just put the truck on a steep downhill grade that was approx. 1/4 mi. long. Crept down the hill with brakes applied the entire way. Not a peep (or squeal) out of the brakes. I'd say that the work done under the TSP solved the noise issue. :)

Has anyone got this SB done outside of their warranty (36K or 36 months)? I just rolled over 38K and was hoping they will be lenient.

TSB is taken care of without a question. Total comes out at $431 and Toyota takes care of that.

    No more squeaking.

Took my truck in for it's 20k service and mentioned the brake squeak. They were able to duplicate the squeak and said they would take care of it. I have another appointment next week for them to do the work.

Yes normal. It did this to me when I had it for three months. All the dealer will do will be to clean the rear drum assembly and lube the front. It is just "settling in" . Mine did it when I had about 4k miles on it. I now have 32k. Only squeaked for like 500 miles though.
