    Hey there guys.

New to the forums. Have been lurking for a while and have found great help here. I have my dad's 2012 grey access cab base model and have done a few cosmetic upgrades (lifted, new tires wheels, blacked out lettering and badges). No it will never be a TRD but it's what I have.

I have done a number of searches and wile there are plenty of discussion about the DRLs and fog lights I have not been able to run across a thread specifically for this idea.

What I would like to do is "convert" the DRL function to run fog lights, Makes sense?... I don't have fog lights yet but what I envision is clear units that are run all the time like the DRLs and then the amber DRLs only come on as turn indicators.

Can this be done using the existing wiring or is it a combination of efforts... I would have to figure out if the fog lights will stay on when the headlights are on. Are the DRLs on with the headlights?

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave

    Welcome to TW Dave

I don't think I quite follow. Why not add a separate switch to control the fogs independently? That way you can run them all the time if you want, and also use them with your headlights for actual fog if you need.

    Thanks RL...

Yes, just thinking this through. Maybe I am not looking at it the right way.

To me the DRLS are a no thought item. They are always on and you don't turn them on. I would like the fog lights to operate the same way. Yes I suppose they could be switched and just left on all the time too. I haven't paid enough attention to figure out if the DRLs turn off when the headlights are on. I see the fog lights more in terms of sports car "driving lights"...

A separate circuit / switch for the fogs is an excellent inexpensive option to get the DRL like function. Forget about monkeying around with the turn signals or even adding all the OEM parts for DRLs . When in real dense fog you don't want the headlights on anyway, even on low beam - too much glare. DRLs were a factory order option - my Tacoma came without them. However, using a simple mod found here on TacomaWorld, I slightly modified the Fog light circuit so they come on even when only parking lights are on and the Fog Light Switch calls for them to be on. FYI see your local Dealer's parts department for the correct dash fog switch if you want an OEM look. Good luck with your Taco projects!

Thank you for the responses guys, much appreciated. First on my list is a new head unit and rear camera (parts ordered) and then the wiper stalk to replace the original 2 position with an intermittent.
