Zaino has great products (as are Clay Bars). They are a Show Car Polish
Go to their site and read the tips and tricks.
They recommend not touching you vehicle's finish with anything but a USA Made Cotton Towel
Dawn is used anytime you want to strip the wax and/or use the claybar.
That strips it down to the clearcoat, then you have to wax, multiple coats.
Dawn is harmless to the paint and clearcoat, it cuts grease and wax,
but then it leaves the clearcoat with no protection.
When you run out of the Claybar Spray Lubricant,
mix a couple drops of Dawn and water in the bottle.
I put 5 coats of Zaino on my Solara, about ten years ago.
    Haven't applied the polish since.
Bearing in mind it's approaching 12 years old and just hit 29,000
and it's garaged most of the time.
But I use Zaino's Car Wash which adds to the Polymar Polish.
    Yeah, Zaino's not a wax.
Anyway, uncharacteristically had it out in the rain the other day and it still beads up.

EDIT: Haven't done the Tacoma Yet, wish I had when it was new.

Honestly guys what he's done is not so bad. As long as you do it very rarely and polish, wax the paint right after, it will be fine. I know a lot of people who use it when they want to strip all residues and waxes off the paint.

I dont do it. I usually just use a "middle of the road" brand of car wash and if I want the paint to be really clean and stripped, I simply increase the concentration of it in my bucket.

I like how this thread started from clay bars to dawn dish soap.

    Here is my thoughts:

It's DISH soap.. I'll use it on my dishs.

It's Automotive soap, I'll use it on my cars.

I'm not going to use my Turtle Wax (Not what I use but needed a name drop) car wash on my dishes why would I use dish soap on my car?

Maybe next I'll try conditioner on the tires.. I hear it really brings out the shine and makes the silky smooth.

This thread is getting nuts. If you read the whole thread, dawn was used ONCE and only ONCE. I don't use it regularly, I wouldn't recommend it myself.

It was used once, as directed by the product I was using. I agree with it, you need to strip all waxes and oils off your paint to be SURE NOTHING is under the polish you put on.

My clearcoat is fine, in fact I would go as far as saying my truck is way shinier than yours.

Here's the instructions from zaino's website:

    BASIC ZAINO APPLICATION TIPS

THREE SIMPLE STEPS to obtain a true Zaino show car finish
    Step 1—STRIP THE OLD WAX
    • Wash the car, going top to bottom, with Dawn Ultra® liquid detergent.
    • Thoroughly rinse the car with a pressurized hose and spray nozzle. Make sure all detergent soap is gone. Leave Dawn in the kitchen since you'll never use it again on your car.
    • Dry completely using only clean, soft, absorbent towels.
