wondering if anyone has experienced this.... normally i have my headlights on full time. when i turn off my truck and open the driver door, they turn off. that doesn't seem to be happening anymore for some reason. anyone?

edit: they do manually, just not automatically anymore.

Did you open the door before you turned off the truck?
I found they stay on if you do.

that has happened to me before, this time no matter what i do, they just won't turn off automatically. it's not the end of the world but it was handy. if it doesn't somehow fix itself i'll talk to toyota on my next service.

If you did the fog light anytime mod, I've heard that it disables the auto shutoff.

I have had issues with headlights too, here is what I know and conclusions:

I have heard many say differently but specifically with my truck over the 7 years that I have had it when you turn off the ignition the lights do not go out they will only go out when you open the driver door

I seem to have more issues not long before having to replace my battery; possibly why I have to replace it, but I think it is a symptom not the cause. I am pretty sure it is because the battery is low because since it has happened with the first born I have since watched regularly and almost every time to make sure my lights do not stay on however I have card at times they would have stayed on even after I open the door. Had I not caught it, the lights stay on, battery dies. Even when I catch it, within days/weeks im replacing the battery.

Also, without too many details, after our first was born. my wife would sit in the car when we go somewhere with the truck running. When she was done feeding, she would turn off the car and exit her door, because the driver door never opened, the lights stayed on.

no mods, they normally stay on until i open the door, maybe being -35 with the windchill has something to do with it?

Is the dome light working normally? Assuming you have it set on "door". If it is not working either, the door pin switch could be to blame, or maybe the rubber bellows on the switch is just too stiff at those temps for it to work.

Mine turn off when I open the door, dumb question, but does your dome light come on/truck recognize the door being open? Maybe being that cold, something froze. :notsure:

This is what I'm thinking also look at the switch see if it pops out when u open the door, could be frozen and not moving. Truckis thinking door is still shut.

ok, so i just went out and checked, unlock the doors with the fob, dome light goes on.
jump in, start it up, turn the lights on, turn truck off and open door, lights stay on.
start it again, let it run for a bit, turn truck off and open door, lights stay on, turn off manually.
start it again, turn lights on, flick my fog lights on and off a few times, turn off truck and open door, after 2 seconds, lights go off on there own.
so i start it up and take it around the block, park, turn truck off, open door, another delay but they turn off on their own.
dome light turns on every time i open the door.
kind of hit and miss, im guessing it might have something to do with the cold but i'll keep an eye on it.
thanks for all the input guys, i never thought about checking the dome light.

I lost when you turned them on and off and opened doors. I did want to say, that a different electrical/wiring issue that have happens when it is cold. Driver side rear door does not unlock with the fob, I can lock it with fob and lock/unlock with the switch on the driver side door panel. This usually only happens in the cold.

I'm not good with electrics, but maybe some of the wiring is not insulated enough :notsure:

Cold will not negatively affect the electrical flow through wire. It actually improves it.
It has to be something mechanical, or something impacted by moisture.

that's probably it, as i was driving away my dome light turned on by itself, so i had to open and close the door for it to go out.

I'm telling you, mine does strange things when it is cold. Oh by the way, it hasn't been really cold in a week or so, my rear driver side door has unlocked every time with the keyless entry, no problems.
