So my truck is getting its first 5k service... I typed up a list of the issues i was having, printed it out and gave it to the service guy. He looked like something bit him! So I guess we will see what gets fixed and what doesnt. I just think if you pay 30k for a truck, you shouldnt have all these issues. I really want to have a good relationship with the service department, so I told them to keep it for 3 or 4 days. Sure do miss my little flawed truck... ha. So here is my list/printed list i gave the guy:

    Truck 5k service and issues
    2012 Tacoma TRD O/R
    6/18/12

*around 20 mph truck vibrates, feels like rear drive shaft vibration

*rear drums squealing in reverse in the morning and at end of stopping

*driving over rough road, something in the dash near right of the radio is rattling

*2 different loud tapping noises coming from drivers side of the motor. one sounds like valves and the other like exhaust.

*connectivity constantly dropped for entune. connects then when i turn the truck off and then turn it back on, the only thing that is still connected is making calls. i have to delete the pairing and reconnect everything if i want to use entune or stream my music

*left tweeter rattling when music is playing

    *5k service

    *please use synthetic oil

    end of letter

*** What do you think? Totally anal huh...

I had the same experience. I had to take it back like 4 times around the 5k service. I made them Pay for a Rental car each time. They even sent a windshield repair tech to my house on their dime to fix the squeal TSB. Also made them reimburse me for the 5k oil change because their tech insisted that it was not due until 10k. I had a lot of problems with the truck when I first got it, but if you insist and are a dick, the things will get done, and the truck will be great.

Anal yes, but you won't be the jackass getting screwed over by them so IMO keep it up.

Dealerships 'slant' their wording in order to avoid lemon laws so IMO I would get them to sign off on your list should their list not be the same. They are good at what they do and avoiding money coming out of their pockets is their claim to fame so do everything you can to document it all. Pictures, e-mails, etc. I wouldn't even call them to schedule service - I would do it all by e-mail and keep all of them.

Also make sure you check everything before you leave the dealership (and try to pick up the vehicle early enough that the Service Manager will be around). Also, check your receipt for the synthetic oil - they didn't charge me the upcharge when I went to pick it up so I inquired, they said it was done, but then I saw on the receipt that they didn't invoice the synthetic at all.

My 5k service required me to go back because they fixed only 1 of the 4 things I asked for, and actually caused more damage when they fixed the 1 thing (and left the truck interior super dirty/stains on the seats). The Service Manager wasn't around so I had to tell the regular rep, who didn't actually do anything about my complaints.

I sent a nasty email to the Service Manager, the Service Director, and the GM (with pictures) - the Service Manager followed up several times before I got back to him. I took it back in, dealt directly and only with him (which got me many confused looks by the employees), and got everything taken care of. Next time I need service, I'm calling the Manager directly and only going through him.

check the dip stick regardless of what the receipt says ...it's easy to tell the difference.

Some get built on Mondays and Fridays - luckily mine was built on a Tuesday :D

make a mark on your oil filter so you can tell if they replaced it or not with the oil change

I guess I'm lucky, I have known my service manager for 40 years. We grew up together.

Hey Tom, so what does your friend say about that drive shaft vibration? The dealer called finally. They fixed everything but the entune and the vibration. the advisor says he pulled another truck around, brand new on the lot and it does the same thing. Im not suprised by this... I told him i was hoping they would check the balance on the drive shafts, because when i get on it, it really vibrates bad. He wants me to reproduce that for the master tech tomorrow morning.

Got my truck back today... WOOT! one interesting thing... before my breaks were spongy and i felt the slightest pulse in the pedal when i braked. Now, after fixing my e-brake squealing problem, my breaks are no longer spongy and they dont pulse, so whatever adjustments they made, my brakes feel great now!

Did you figure out the rattle to the right of the radio?

I had the same issue.. it was the little latch that the glovebox locks to. All I did was tighten the bolt (10 mm iirc). FIXED!
