Actually if you hit it right you can get an insane deal. I know of quite a few dealerships that were getting their final shipments of '11 MY literally a week before their first shipment of '12 MY. A lot of the dealerships I went to didn't wait to sell their 2011s before getting in 2012s. Its always about being the first, because there will always be people who want the newest first.

When I bought my Tacoma there were quite a few dealerships with a few 2011s even though they had a decent selection of 2012s. I then found the dealership with a color/package combo that was ok to me and literally stole it off the lot. Sure your not going to get everything you want, but if you are flexible with packages and color you can get a steal.

I wanted a TRD sport but they only had a black double cab SR5, but with the insane deal they gave me on the truck I can just upgrade all the other stuff to what I want in due time. My truck literally went up in value when I drove it off the lot, used the kbb value on the truck was thousands more than I paid for it new :D Also because it wasnt blue, a TRD sport, or a 2012 I got bluetooth and remote start thrown in for free :D

And agreed that the selection on the previous year model may not be the greatest... but that's part of the reason the prices drop as you get beyond the new model release date.

So you may not get exactly the truck you want... but I've only been able to do that once in my life.
Next best was the wife's Rav4... had the choice between a white pear Sport and a dark blue Limited. She wanted white, but she wanted the Limited. Ended up with the Limited.

Beyond that, even buying the '03 in November '02, DSM wasn't my first choice, but I ended up loving it... and that's the thing. You want one specific color and option package, so maybe you can get the options you want, but maybe with one extra feature that you didn't really care about but end up liking, and maybe not your first color choice, but you end up loving it a month later (I don't even remember what color I wanted when I bought my DSM Tundra).

For anyone still currently deciding on 2012 vs 2013. I did just recently read that the 2013's will come with a 6.1" touch screen in the dash standard on all models. The total cost should be $150 more.

Other than that feature the only thing I know of that is definitely changing so far is that they are changing up the packages a bit.

Maybe someone brought this up already, but didn't they add a ton of upgrades to the 12 over the 11? It's done now anyway, right! No need to worry about it. You have a beautiful brand new truck. Sucks how you had to get it, but having a 2012 Tacoma is a good thing to have.

    Hello Taco crowd,

Fist post here so please play nice.....

I am thinking of getting my FIRST truck ever and Taco 4x4 DC Auto V6 is the goal but I have few questions:

    1. Short bed vs Long bed. Is that a big diff?
    2. Should I get '12 or 13?
    3. Can I get at invoice price for '12? Is it doable for under invoice?
    4. Main differences between '12 and '13?

I used to have 2002 4Runner Sport Edition 4WD, owned it for 8 years with 73k on it and no issue at all. I regretted selling that one. This new Taco DC will be similar in dimensions as the 4Runner I guess. Since then I got a 07 Lexus IS, 2010 RX350, 2011 Camry SE, and 2011 Lexus RX450h. Still have the RX350 and 450h but NONE of these give me the love the 4Runner did. may be I can five something with this Taco.

    Thanks for the helps.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
i have a 05 DC TRD prerunner short bed, and about every other month i need a 6 ft bed, about a month ago i built a bed extender and now have a 6 1/2ft' bed so problem solved. but it would have been easier to just have a 6ft bed to begin with and now i would have a 7 1/2' bed if that was the case. if u think u will ever need a longer bed i would get it. you can always put less stuff in a bigger bed but its hard to put more stuff in a smaller bed. as far as 12 or 13, i don't even buy vehicles with warranty remaining on them due to price/value to me. its a toyota, my truck had 142k on it when i bought it and i had to put a u-joint in it and i've changed the oil and tranny since then other than that no work on it other than exhaust and played around with a CAI and went back to stock for now. i plan on putting another 250k on it (at 166k now) without a hitch so i personally would go with which ever you got the best deal on.

Short vs Long. Difference is one foot.
12 or 13 depends on availability of options you want for the price you want, find a truck you like, don't worry about what year it is
You can get a good price on a 12, you just have to shop around, keep an eye out, and hopefully you can snag a deal. Just don't buy the first one you see, always shop around.
12 and 13 have minor differences, especially depending on what package you get, ie sr5, trd OR or Sport, or whatever

I saw a black 2012 TRD Sport DCLB at my local dealer. It was beautiful! It was gone by noon the same day. That's the only 2012 that I've seen at a dealer since the 2013s arrived.
