    Hey guys,

My wife and I got new Toyotas on the same day a week ago. She got a 2012 Rav4 and likes it a lot. However, 3 times lately she will be driving, with the cruise engaged and the cruise shuts off, and the EBS and traction lights both come on. When the car is turned off and back on, they go away. It has 600 miles on it BTW.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Back to the dealer.

Failure in some systems will trigger a "light" and disabling of other systems, such as ABS/EBS and TRAC, CEL, and may disable cruise.

My wife's '04 Rav had a couple of "out of the box" issues... needed a new ECU within 2 weeks, and at about 30k lost an O2 sensor.
    No problems since.

    ABS light, not EBS. Sorry.
Yeah, we're calling the dealer in the morning and scheduling an appointment to have it checked out. Hopefully there will be a code show up and they can just replace a part and be done with it.

Is it possible that since it's brand new that brake dust is covering a sensor? That may be a stupid question, but I'm no mechanic. Just an idea.

Not really. The ABS sensor should be threaded into the hub and essentially sealed from the elements.

Ya... When wife's ECU shit the bed, it threw CEL and Trac, I don't remember if it threw ABS or not, I don't think so.
Didn't run worth a crap... she tried to nurse it back to our preferred dealer and it finally stalled about 5 miles from a different dealership.
She could restart, but it wouldn't move more than a few hundred feet before stalling again. Got it parked safely and called AAA.

I wish I had paid to have it towed to Carson Toyota. San Berdoo had it for 3 weeks, and when we got it back half the underbody covers and clips were missing, including the clips that secure the battery cover and the entire panel that covers the bottom right side of the engine.

Looking at the service records, they didn't even enter the information... the only thing showing in Toyota's system is the O2 sensor replacement almost 2 years later.

    Update!
Took to dealership and they said it needed a brake booster. Made appointment and took it by at 8:00 am this morning. Called just before 5:00 pm when I was getting off work and they said it wouldn't be ready until tomorrow.
Is swapping out a brake booster an all day job? I wasn't thinking it was, but then again, I'm no mechanic.

Shouldn't take but an hour or two at the most.
Likely they misdiagnosed and the new booster didn't fix the problem.
