My 2012 was about half that bad when I bought it. Prior to my ownership it was neglected, but I did some serious rust treatment last year.

You guys that are bad mouthing the OP for lack of maintenance sound brainwashed by Toyota. Starting back in the 80s I’ve had two Ford trucks and five different Dodges and never had to coat or treat the underside with anything other than regular washes. Never did any of them rust like that in 6 years, not even close. It’s a Toyota thing...

Don’t get me wrong, I love these trucks for their reliability etc. but you take the good with the bad.

Bullshit,ALL manufacturers frames can rust. Guy at work has a Ranger that the rear frame rails are swiss cheese.

The problem is what OP posted is much more atypical for a Toyota rust problem. OP's frame looks relatively fine but the exposed drive-train and suspension components look like rust was just left to do its thing. Toyota may have a rust issue, but pointing the finger at Toyota the moment a spec of rust pops up is just as bad as pure denial that a problem exists.

I have a weld on the front right side frame just above the wheel of my 2012 truck. It was purchased new, and undercoated at the dealer. Its about the size of a quarter. I live on Long Island and salt is used on the streets during the winter. I cannot find my rust through warranty. Can anyone shed some light as to how long my new purchased rust through warranty is good for. Thank You

FWIW, the new de-icers are much worse then the salt they used to dump which was bad enough. The stuff used now is killing ALL cars and trucks at a much faster rate then just salt alone.

And it doesn't help that they use much more salt then they used to, now they plow less and dump salt even when you get 1/4 inch of snow. I NEVER saw that decades ago, now you see a snowflake and an hour later the roads are coated with white, however, it's salt and not snow.

They realized that it’s cheaper to do that than make consecutive plowing trips, not giving a shit about accelerated rust on vehicles. Gotta maximize town budgets and taxpayer money somehow.

And the ONLY vehicle I've *EVER* had the "pleasure" of bringing back for RUST THROUGH, while still under warranty *AGAINST* rust-through was...... an American brand.
My Toyota now has about double the mileage that that heap of trash had when it was scrapped, yet no rust anywhere on it.
