I'll try to head over there when I can like I said... But if there is a hole in it I can only assume a rock or something hit it

    I don't get this.

The TRAC OFF light came on and the CHECK ENGINE light lit up. That would not label coolant as the leaking fluid. As I said before the ECT sensor has to be submersed in coolant to give an accurate reading. If there was an air pocket due to coolant leaking out or no coolant at all, the temp gauge would have displayed over H!

If I don't make it there I'll tell them to give me my old radiator. I mean it is MY radiator

An impact such that it fractured your radiator to the point that all your coolant bled out would be fairly impressive. And what I mean by that is that it would be felt and heard by the driver (you) I would imagine.

Do you recall hearing or feeling anything like that?

(PS: Not trying to say the dealer is screwing you but it just seems unlikely that you were just putzing around, didn't notice anything had happened, and then the car started acting up.)

Yea so talked to the dealer of course the guy there didn't know anything about it... However my truck has no scratches or anything and you would think that it would from an impact like that... I also believe that my engine is blown or something because after the truck arrived at the dealer they started it and smoke was coming from the tailpipe not good :(. I'm 22 and this is the first car I've bought... Sucks to be me right now

Get some wire mesh and place in front of the radiator.

Cost about $3 and took like fifteen min.

    First:

If you cannot get them to warranty it, don't pay the dealer. A radiator replacement isn't that difficult, and you can save a ton on labor by doing it yourself. Even better, you can get the parts online cheaper than through the dealer.

    Second:

Escalate this. I'd take it up as high as you can in the Toyota corporate chain. I have a hard time believing a rock strike sufficient to blast a hole in your radiator wouldn't be felt or heard throughout the cab.

not to say it didn't happen....but wow....that had to be a hell of a rock to punch a whole all the way thru a radiator core. i mean...gee wiz...it had to first sneak in thru the grill....then it had to go thru the radiator fins....and then bust the pipe.

    hell of a rock

i'd love to see pictures of the radiator

Have your truck flat-bedded to an independent shop or a different dealer for another opinion. I am sure your insurance company wants Toyota to be responsible for this at least as much as you do so they will likely be very helpful. Toyota has earned a partially well-deserved reputation for being less than forthcoming with defects. Call the investigative reporter / consumer advocate at your local new station too.

I worked at a toyota dealership for close to 10 years. Unless its obvious that a rock hit the radiator, you can complain and get basically whatever you want. But make sure they show you, and make sure you take YOUR OWN PICTURES FOR DOCUMENTATION.

This type of situation makes me wish are 2nd gens had a low coolant sensor in the reservoir or on the radiator and a warning light on the dash.

...Check your coolant level. It's not hard. You're supposed to be under the hood regularly to check your oil anyway.

Also guys I fpdont want to go to an independent shop on this. I have all my work done through independent shops and nothing but good.. However regardless of what happens I still will pay more than my deductible.. So I'll go with the dealer and get all genuine Toyota parts put on my truck...

Um... You have the right to go anywhere you want with insurance. Who said you have to go to the dealer to get genuine toyota parts?

I'd like to see pictures of this supposed hole. Sounds like the dealer made up a story to be honest. Escalate this by going AROUND the dealer, not through them. Talk to your insurance agent - they are on your side (this time).

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
FWIW ... my transmission went out on my 2007 5.7 Tundra with 500 miles on it. Toyota put a new transmission in, gave me a free Camry rental and a free Platinum Warranty and everything was done in 5 days (counting a weekend too).

Granted this was when the new full size 2007 Tundra just came out and Toyota wanted no bad press.

Give them a chance to fix it first, especially since it's over a month old.

Also, I have had issues with every new truck ... and major issues with model & chassis changes ... examples like ... 2000 Tundra, 2004 Titan & 2007 Tundra.

Good luck and hope that the problem is solved quickly and does not come back again.
    .
