Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^ ... Yes and it started a long time ago. I had one of the first BMW M-Roadsters (maybe 1997 ?) it was a Z3 with a M3 motor. And it had true duals off an in line 6 with (all the way back) no room in truck due to dual exhaust resonators. (Truck was more shallow than regular Z3 I believe)

At delivery, when I looked for a collapsable spare, all I found was a booklet and a can of tire patching compound in the trunk. ...

PS ... And those were NOT self sealing or run flat tire back then either.

100%. A rock putting a hole in the radiator? Bullshit. Make sure you see the old radiator. Even though they're going to give you a "we alraedy threw it away". I'd call Toyota immediately. Fuck this pisses me off. Dealers are always trying to fuck over customers.

Before you tow it off you had better see if there are other problems like a cooked engine once some one else has their hands in it they are not going to want to have any thing to do with it. I agree that Toyota should know about your problem if indeed the radiator is damaged so be it but Toyota may cover consequential damage. If a rock breaks your window Toyota has no control over that but there should be some thing in place to avoid catastrophic damage. You did the right thing I worked on cars for 35 years my truck has only 13K on it if some thing goes wacky the dealer will get it it's all part and parcel of what you paid for when you bought it. Tens of millions of people own computers a very small percentage have even the slightest ideal how they work and they are not about to look inside the box when they get the blue screen of death that's why Dell has an 800 number.

upon further review...it would have also had to get thru the A/C system that is mounted in front of the radiator....

that is one magic logie

Oh shit yeah, I don't know how I didn't even think about that. The condenser for the AC is in front of like 90% of the radiator!

That's fine. Nothing wrong with that. But why post it to this forum if you don't have a clue what the problem is and haven't even taken a few seconds to get a clue (feel the liquid, see where it's coming from, etc)? Heck, it appears he put more effort into writing the message here (to ask what's wrong) than he did trying to figure it out while standing right beside the vehicle.

Actually, I don't even get the point of this thread. Okay, so the truck broke down. Even the most advanced machines on the planet break down occasionally. Call the repair shop and have it fixed. End of story. All the other stuff about lemon laws, state attorney generals office, and similar is just nonsense at this point. At least wait to see what's wrong.

well my insurance is going to the dealer today... and i know that in all likelihood the dealer is screwing me over on this... i looked at the truck last night 10 minutes before they closed and i couldnt find any damages on the radiator at all.. but appearently it was on the bottom of the radiator and i was looking at the front as best as i could with a flashlight, i even got under the truck and couldnt see it but i honestly have no time to go over there because i am in school all day today. my insurance is going there today to inspect and to cut them a check for the damages... ill just pay the deductible for the truck. and my bet is that the engine is cooked as well..

Your radiator broke, with the engine hot enough to shut down, and you couldn't immediately figure out what the problem was on your own? Wow! Even my wife (who is definitely not mechanically inclined - doesn't even like to check the oil level) quickly figured out a breached radiator (rock or similar) when her vehicle broke down a few years ago (fluid leaking from the radiator, etc).

Ok OP, what is the rest of the story? This whole story sounds fishy. I am waiting for the "by the way, I went and thrashed it off road on Saturday." But seriously, after looking over the front end of mine I don't really see how this could happen without damaging the lower grill and taking out the condenser. Is your skid plate still present? Funny thing is, I don't see why the dealer would try to screw you. Either they get paid from Toyota or they get paid from your insurance co--either way it is not coming out of their pocket. Like I said, not calling BS yet, but there has to be something more here...

And I don't get the point of your post. As a new Taco owner, I'm quite interested to hear what the actual cause and resolution turn out to be. You have obviously spent a good bit of time reading this thread just to decide that you find it pointless.

weird all around.

i would pay out of pocket tho...good chance using the insurance is going to raise your rates....

i'd still be curious to see a picture of the damage. i still find it hard to believe a rock is going to break a radiator core open.

i'd also keep the old radiator...demand it...and take it to the recycling center...for a couple of bucks.

Dude ease up on the poor guy. His 2012 truck just broke down and you are all over him making things worse. Everyone I have come across on TW are helpfull and curteous to others. Surprised your son and wife havent left you yet (probably cause they are too scared too). Maybe someday you will run into a problem you cant fix on your 2012 tacoma and everyone can be a D-bag to you! :p

I'm not sure why alot of people responding on this post is bashing the OP, so ok, he didn't look what fluid it was or inspect his truck. Maybe because of panic mode and in a hurry, whatever.

He did what he did, and asked us for help. Just answer what ever question he has and GTFO, its not difficult. Don't compair him to your wife, or call him an asshole for not looking. Like I said he was probably partly in panic mode considering what just happed to his truck.
