I really hate the factory unit. Every time I leave the iPod plugged in and used as the source, after I turn the truck off and back on, it defaults to the BT audio. This causes my phone to start the music player, which is really annoying. Then it sucks to scroll through the iPod, because if you sit for too long on an artist or whatever it starts playing it without you even making a selection. Plus it takes forever to load the artist list sometimes. Then you can't sync your contacts and apparently no one knows how to add a typed name entry when you manually program a voice dial command. What a POS. Thanks for that one Toyota. My wife's Hyundai has 100 times the radio you developed for your loyal fanbase! Can't wait until I have the time to take on this project and get rid of this garbage!

Had to vent a little...I was contemplating starting a new thread just to let ppl share their own hatred of this abysmal radio but figured I'd just post here instead!

After my friend sanded the sides down a little bit it looks nice, although the sanding shouldn't have been necessary. I emailed Metra and they recommended that I have a shop do the install (facepalm). I will post a pic tomorrow.

I also had to sand off some (actually used a metal filer) to make my Pioneer deh-p9400BH fit the single din. My hands and wrists were a little sore, but after 30 minutes or so....I have a good fit. I agree, the finish and curve does match our 2012 panel so I am satisfied.

Better to sand it down for a better fit than have it be too big.

This was the last part of the conversation after he realized that they didn't make it to fit the new double dins

    Hello,

I have looked into the situation and after reading what my tech wrote and talking with my colleagues there are a few stereos that that have different widths and require some modification to most of the dash kits we sell. My lead installer is accustomed to these issues and possesses the skill set to make sure the install is seamless.

Would you like me to recommend an installer near you?

    Thank you,

    Jeff Fletcher
    West Coast Sales Manager

    ME:

You may recommend one, but I personally didn't want to pay to have a dash kit installed. I do appreciate the research and concern.

    HIM:
I completely understand that sometimes these things can be a pain, but we want you to enjoy your awesome truck.

    What town do you reside?

    HIM:

When you get some time, please call these guys.

I recommend you surrender the install to them and these guys are top notch.

They also do everything like custom boxes, remote start alarms, ect.

I can start my truck with my phone ☺

    ME:

While I appreciate your recommendation to have an audio shop finish my install, I still am not going to pay to have a problem, that shouldn't exist, be fixed by me spending more money.

    Thanks

What Head UNit do you have?

What are the measurements of the front face of your stereo?

If it is larger than 7 inches wide or taller than 4 inches it is the Stereo Mfgs fault.

The Double DIN Standard is 7 inches X 4 Inches. Single DIN is 7 X 2 inches.

Accually I used the plastic brackets from the 2011 scoshe kit. The angle is different. Worked out better.

yeah i has just wondering because on my 06 i used the factory metal brackets and fit perfect then on my 12 i had to use the plastic ones and it took me a few mins of tightening and and undoing and tightening until i got it right.. but at the same time i didnt do the 7inch.. but i plan on doing the 4400bh here shortly and i am hoping i dont have this issue!

Good news guys, just left my local audio shop in Tempe, AZ. The manager informed me that he is a preferred Metra dealer and they have began to ship double din and single din dash install kits for the 2012. He had six in stock which one of them was the flat black finish. My single din is in route from Florida, when I finish the install I will get some pics up! Call your local dealers, see what you can find out...

I used the Metra single din for my 2012 DC and the opening width is 6 3/4" NOT 7" on the Metra single DIN kit. Had to sand off a bit for the Pioneer to fit. Lovin the Pioneer DEH-P9400BT btw.

The DIN Chassis Spec is 7 inches. " most " stereo units have a face that is smaller than the chassis and is usually about 6.75 inches wide X 3.75 inches high for a double DIN. Of course now they are trying to get as big a screen as possible into the Double DIN space and they are fudging the normal rules and the face is just as large as the chassis. That is why some modifications are required depending on the head unit...

Wow... Are you saying that Scosche now has a 2012 dash kit available? Their website still doesn't show it.
