Hello. I am considering a 2012 Access Cab SR5 V6 4x4 with under 23k miles. One owner Toyota Certified vehicle. SR5 extra value package, tow package, Westin bull bar and side steps. Barcelona red. 6 speed manual tranny. Truck looks clean. It is however about 500 miles from my location. Truck is in an area NOT in the snow belt. That should be a plus on a Tacoma. Asking $23,997. How does that price sound.

My current truck is an 08 TRD OR V6 Access Cab 4x4 with 97k miles. It has been a great truck for the 4 years that I have owned it. Has had frame coating applied and new rear leafs under recalls. Just wondering if it is the right time to move up a few years and down on miles.

Thanks for any input on this.
    Ken

It sound like a nice find for the 12. The only down fall would be going from a double cab to an access cab. If loosing the extra cab space is not an issue you should be good. Any pictures of the possible buy?

Sounds like a solid buy especially for a 12 with that mileage.

I set some radio stations. That's about it so far.

The price sounds good. Is it a V6?

My current truck is an Access Cab also. Prefer the 6' box on the AC.

Sounds kinda pricey. A new SR5 4 cylinder 4x4 at MSRP is $31k but sells for $28/$29k. My 2016 has trade value of $25k.

Unless they'll go down to $20k or below it seems expensive. Then again I'm not going to pretend to know the why or how of pricing.

Edit: I would allow for a +1k difference for the 6 cylinder engine versus 4 cylinder engine. Also the MSRP I quoted above was at 2016 prices and it would seem that the cost had increased by about another $1k for the 2017 MSRP.

I was thinking closer to $22k as an offer.

Seems kind of high. I just purchased a 12 TRD Off Road with 33k for $25k from our local Jeep dealer.

You already have the best year range truck. I wouldn't trade my '06 straight across for a '12. Before you make a decision, look at the back seat design on the '12. Also, many people on here have had very expensive smog pump issues with the '12.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to offer 20k with the expectation that they would go to $22k. That sounds like the sweet spot to be at. Dealerships expect a little haggling.

Get them to throw in tag, tittle and tax and you hit a home run on that deal. The great thing is that it's not unreasonable to get all that.

Keep in mind that the average cost of a used car is $16K. Anything over that and they start competing with the new car market.

Let us know how it goes.

Great point! Make sure you keep reminding them that you are going to have to drive 500 miles to pick it up. There are a lot of trucks between here and there.

I'm assuming your current truck is paid off? I'd just keep it since it's in good mechanical condition as well as low mileage for the year. No sense in adding a car payment when that money could be spent elsewhere.
