So my 2013 non nav radio's screen is all messed up and its not the screen, known issue with these particular radios going bad.

Anyways, do the radios out of the 2012 trucks that look like this have bluetooth for phone calls and audio playback? I have no use for any aftermarket nav unit for multiple hundreds of dollars and these can be acquired for pretty cheap.

My 2013 has this radio (non jbl entune - non nav) radio

    upload_2024-8-21_13-33-10.png

So yeah I have all the bluetooth functions for call and audio. Used prices on these are multiple hundred dollars (which at that point may as well get an aftermarket one). The PCB that runs the display of my unit is sideways, though initially the screen itself was going bad so replaced that for 30$ but same messed up image persists so the actual electronic board is bad.

I didnt know that 2013 trucks came with the non 6in display screen radio as well. @MSgt O Do you still have that stock radio? How did you access the bluetooth audio? press the "aux" button?

I just wanted a backup cam. This was the cheapest I found: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_104BV765BL/BOSS-Audio-Elite-BV765BLC.html?tp=5684

Add about $100 if you have steering wheel audio control you wish to keep. I got their wiring adapter and dash kit too. Works for me. I’ve only had it about a week now. Love the backup cam. Has Bluetooth but I’ve not tried it yet. I don’t know about Boss reliability, but it’s got a good warranty from Crutchfield.

If it helps, the unit in my 2014 is the optional Entune+ which I believe amongst other things: included Bluetooth audio the USB port and hands-free calling, and a few other features. such as steering wheel controls and the voice-command. (no navigation).

Mine crashes once/freezes once in a while and stops responding, but a power restart shut-down always brings it back. (push and hold down the power button until it re-starts.)

Ah dang, but it was exactly like pictured in the original post of this thread AND had bluetooth audio / calls? It wasnt the second pic in this thread right?

HMM ok I had my filters on crutchfield without dvd/cd so I hadnt seen that. A whole package to get me an aftermarket radio around 200 might be the way to go with steering wheel controls.

Yeah no rebooting etc will help my 2013's headunit.

I have the same head unit, it's not obvious but it does indeed have BT that supports calls AND audio, which I was thrilled to find out..and it also works pretty well. Glad I can get rid of my cable spaghetti and stop eyeing the various aftermarket head units, for now at least.

It's not an intuitive setup, but I am pretty sure this is the video I watched in a parking lot a few months ago that got me squared away. IIRC I didn't rewatch the whole thing, but I think you can pull it off without needing the display.

Dude! Thank you. HMMMM my 2013 steering wheel controls dont have the "talk switch" as you have the touch screen with the radio I have stock. I wonder if you could do all of the bluetooth pairing via the knobs n buttons on the actual head unit.

Oh shoot, totally missed that the one in your OP was not what was currently in your truck (jet lag is low key hell). Not sure if that will work or not, but, definitely worth a shot at least. Might have to futz around with replacing some steering wheel controls or something to get everything working if you swap to the base model H/U..good luck and keep us posted.

Im definitely at a toss up. Like I really DONT care about any touch screen / nav / carplay / etc etc. If i can answer calls, bluetooth audio and listen to FM radio. Im good. The link that @Knudsen provided opened my mind a little bit to aftermarket. I was looking at anywhere from 90-120$ for a stock base model head unit that may or may not work to ~200 for an aftermarket touch screen unit thats very similar to the stocker touch screen I have. That option is a bit more palatable vs a head unit alone costing 3-500$ + fit kit + steering wheel control etc etc etc.

But i like being difficult (and cheap) and also like the no nosense of the head unit in the original post.... less is more with me. Off to some wiring diagrams to see what the "talk button" looks like as the head unit sees it - a momentary push button tucked up somewhere might suffice for pairing.

Did you get this squared away. I have a 2012 oem radio with cd player for very cheap. Just put in a new head unit and have no need for it.
