Thanks for being so helpful. I’m just gonna break basically everything down and start from the bottom up. I don’t think I have any other choice

Also yes, I love this beach. I live in redwood valley and have been going here since I was a boy. My great grandparents lived there when it was a logging town

I think that's the only choice. Every single electrical connector... With a visual inspection and heavy dose of something like DeoxIt D5 in each and every one.

From there people on here will be able to help you chase down specific issues.

Looking at your picture again, I would definitely suspect gravel in anything that was under the water line. Alternator, bell housing, brake drums, etc.

    Yikes.
I've never looked at that crossing and wanted to attempt it for exactly this reason, always looked like trouble to me. Hope all works out with the truck, sound like you've got yourself a project.

That really sucks. Good luck with everything. Just a reminder to me that my truck is my daily and being careful every time, even in familiar territory is important. I could totally see that happening to me.

You have problems. Even brackish water is going to ruin your entire electrical system. Oxidation will corrode every piece of bare metal. You will have nagging electrical problems until you get rid of it.
If we did that in Baja back in the day, we'd have taken everything and driven away.

    This.

If you got saltwater in the bearings of the pulleys or rotating components of the alternator, they’ll rust out. It’s not an expensive fix - just a time and effort situation.

You can also crank it over by hand with a big ratchet or breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt and see if you can hear something.

What was illegal about that? Is that area closed off?

Genuinely curious. I’m an east coast guy and so long as you have a beach buggy permit for wherever you are you’re fine.

Water that deep is considered a total loss for good reason if it's insured they will junk it.

I've refused to cross roads that had a 2" stream running across them after a storm (turn around don't drown and all that).

Can't imagine trying to cross a river! Yikes!

    Sorry bout your mishap.
Salt water in the wiring will eventually kill it.
May take a while, but it will.

I kinda concur. I think either totaled or a never ending ongoing project. Hope I’m wrong

Not trying too be negative, but 2 hrs in water up to the glove box with these electric all over trucks is usually a truck killer.

Illegal to drive through creek and onto beach south of creek. Very little law enforcement out there seeing as how isolated it is. Day is coming when the state just puts up a gate so no one can get down there if problems persist.

I saw something a year or so back that State Parks is considering turning it into a paid, reservations-required campsite, presumably with a camp host. Definitely would be a money maker and result in a cleaner beach and camping area, so I can't say that I'm that surprised.

grinding when starting could be the flex plate broke?

Salt water isnt fun, i sunk my 88 in fresh water and killed the ECU in a quarry. I was lucky to clean cab and ECU well and covered under warranty.
