I agree with him that the bed rail system sucks, the bed storage lids are cheap, and the truck gets shitty mpg, and that you can probably get a lot more bang for the buck with an F-150, etc.

But what he seems to be missing is that many people in the market for a truck don't buy full size trucks FOR A REASON.

Not everybody lives out in the open prairie land of Montana, some of us truck owners, believe it or not, live in the citty where we parallel park 85% of the time, and the difference between finding a spot where a Tacoma can fit vs. where a fullsize truck can fit can mean driving around the block for an extra 30 minutes looking for a spot that is big enough.

That, and not everybody is 6'5" and 260 lbs like he looks to be. I carry 5 normal sized adults in my truck ALL THE TIME and have never had a complaint about it being too cramped. There's more space in the back than most smaller sedans.

In summary, he makes some valid arguments, but he seems to forget what is important.

I just picked up my 2012 Taco DC Sport a few weeks ago. If I did my math right, I've averaged about 20mpg so far in city driving. Not sure why the guy is complaining about gas mileage.

the Tacoma bed rail system is great IMO, and has served me well.

The bed storage lids are just that...lids. I don't see the big deal, they are convenient spots for storing bungees. at 1st I thought they'd be better hinged at the bottom...but a few times with a loaded bed, I was able to unlock and remove the lid to access the bungees I keep in there.

I'm OK with 20mpg in my truck, although I do agree Toyota can do better...and most likely will with the next generation motor/trans.

actually, my jab was intended for Mr. Doron...who seems like a moron.

as far as the president and the Volt go...that level of moronic activity is debatable, just not here.:D

I think he is right and wrong. Why wouldnt you buy an f150 for the same price, but with leather, gps, eco boost v6 that tows houses and gets 20 mpg? The rail system isnt difficult. There is a fine line between capability and fuel economy. You cant expect a 4x4 truck to get 30 mpgs. But you can now expect your 20mpg to tow quite a bit more than 10 years ago. Tacomas are good looking, reliable, and iconic. People who buy them buy them because they love them. Impatient and clear minded people buy full size trucks. Think about it. For 35k id buy an F150 for sure. My used tacoma was 12k. I bought it because I am a Toyota guy. I love my truck.

Those ecoboost fords can tow 11000 lbs. they get 18 combined mpg. 420 ftlbs of torque motor trend truck of the year. 35k

Like I said, you have to love your toyota. And I do.

    Disagree:

    1. The track system isn't too hard. I figured it out w/o reading the manual.
    2. Double cab fits my family just fine. Better than my F-150 Super cab. What midsize truck would fit his big ass better? Maybe a Triple Cab? I don't think they make those yet.
    3. No, it doesn't ride like a fully independent suspension, but then, it has to be able to carry and tow a certain payload. A bag full of Big Mac's doesn't count.

    Agree:

    1. Fuel economy can be better. We have a 3.5 V6 in another similar weight vehicle and it gets 25 mpg w/10 more hp and 10 ft/lbs less tq. Toyota hasn't felt the need to try to do better since 2005.
    2. Price. It's king of the midsize and commands a kings ransom. If I was buying a new one, I'd have to look at some bigger trucks in the same price range. Not saying I'd buy them instead, but I'd be a fool not to look at them closely.

Actually, outof all my test drives and shopping, getting quotes, etc, the past couple months before deciding on another tacoma, I was offered the following:

The quotes include all fees and destination etc and are all without even negotiating and represent substantial down off the Retail sticker.

2012 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 w/ premium package upgrade, upgrade wheels, full electric sliding rear window, premium stereo, backup camera, etc. Had the just the color I wanted as well. $32K

    Ford F-150 Ecoboost 4x4 Access Cab $33K.

Ram 1500 Bighorn with premium package upgrade $32K

Nissan Titan King Cab 4x4 $31K

Nissan Frontier Pro4X Offroad with premium leather upgrade, stereo etc..-
    $28K

Decided on the tacoma Access Cab TRD Sport for a tad under 30K without taxes.

The only fullsize I really was tempted on was the Tundra because I would prefer a Toyota just for the other factors--reputation, longevitity, etc..

The Titan I could not stand. The drive was horrid. The Frontier I could have seen myself getting but again, I prefer a Toyota. The Frontier is a nice truck with more powere than the tacoma and a tad better handling on the road. The interior is a downgrade, however, even with the leather upgrade. Definitely a more old-school truckish feeling to the Nissan truck interior.

Fordt F-150 was boring. That's the only way I could sum it up. I do not care for the styling. The ride was stiff and rigid. The interior was the best of all of them but it still had the driving manners and handling of my grandfathers old Dodge. My impression was the F-150 is more of a workhorse truck for contractors, etc...Outside of the Raptor, it doesn't have that outdoorsy play vibe the Tacoma has.

Ram had the best ride but I don't know why all the reviewers rave about the interior. It certainly is an upgrade from Ram interiors of the past but nothing to write home about. I guess the premium leather interior trim would be better but the seats are a putrid gray and white and outside of the modern gauges, everything has that old-school pickup feel inside.

I just kept coming back to the tacoma because it is just the right size for me, I have had one so I am comfortable with it, it has a reputation for durability, and any objective individual who sits inside all the midsize truck offerings would likely conclude that the interior is the best in the class.

Lots of people told me I was nuts for spending that much money on the tacoma when I could have spent a couple more for these fullsize other offerings. Comments from my buddies and coworkers who own fullsize trucks ranged from, "Are you nuts?" to "wtf?"

Fullsize owners don't get it. Bigger is not always better. It sometimes is and it can be, but it depends on your needs. My response to the Ram guy in my office who chided me was, wWhy would someone spend $35k for a loaded Rubicon Jeep Wrangler when they could have scored a Ram 1500 for $32? The answer is-- they didn't want the Ram. They wanted the Jeep. Vehicles are not priced on the dimensions of the vehicle.
