I agree with everything you said. Its just a matter of preference. People love the sunburn wet clothes and "un" safety of jeeps. People love the style and attitude of the tacoma. I dont really know why people like dodges. Its all a matter of preference. I dont tow stuff or haul bricks. I love the fact that every time i see a tacoma on the road i feel like i just saw a friend drive by. If you own an f150 your just another truck owner. Thats an 800th post right there

Actually, I think the Dodge is a nice looking truck. It really does have a nice ride, too. Doesn't feel like a fullsize truck. I just don't care for the interior and the reputation isn't stellar. I also don't tow anything more than 2 Jet skis and a small popup camper. The Ford is just too generic for my tastes. They really did good with the itnerior, as I mentioned, but it is the least inspiring ride I have been in as far as test drives. Decent power but it feels like you are driving around a two ton brick. Another factor that is good in the midsized segment is the handling. Tacoma has a very sporty ride on the highway, as does the Frontier.

You don't get anywere near the maneuverability or sporty-like feel with any full size. The dimensions are just too large. Turning circle on the Tundra is a handfull. When I finished my test drive in the Tundra, we headed back into the dealer lot--Toyota and Mercedes dealer--and the guy wanted me to back it in with a $100,000 Mercedes one one side. I was having trouble and just stopped and let the salesguy do it. Parking that thing is a b&tch, especially with the high rear bed height and decreased visibility out the rear sides. Tundra has some serious blind spots on the rear corners.

The reviewer aka Pillsbury Dough boy is a idiot if he can't figure out the tie down hooks in 5 minutes. Also the front seat is fully back when he complaims about rear seat room. Granted if he doesn't go shed some lbs at the gym go get your full size PU Dough boy :D

Only 2 of his points were legitimate.

    1.)low horspower
    2.)poor MPG

If I wanted HP, then i would probably buy a sports car. As for MPG, apox 17ish really isn't bad for the offroad capable, workhorse that the Tacoma is.

I just bought my first Tacoma last month, only after extensive research.

    I wanted:
1.)a offroad capable 2wd(my locker takes me farther than most stock 4x4's I have ever owned)
2.)small vehicle that I could put a child seat in the rear(more than enough room)
3.)techy touchscreen with a sub(IMO the most advanced user friendly touchscreen in a non-luxery vehicle)
4.)after market parts(all of you are aware of this)
    5.) unique color(pyrite mica)
    6.)pay less than 30k(done)

I looked at every larger auto maker and was only able to find all the things I wanted in a Tacoma. I'm gonna keep this thing till it dies.

    OK...back to trucks.

    I bought a Tacoma DC 4x4 SR5 that msrp'd for 30K, for 28K (approx #'s) and is worth 25K two years later.

A full size domestic 4x4 crew cab truck in simular trim will not be bought for the same dollars...and would be worth less than 25K after two years of ownership. I know this from personal ownership experience.

    YMMV :D

I will have to agree with this. Its all up to you on what you want. For me I made the perfect decision. I love my Tacoma. I have hauled heavy trailers and even 1100 pounds of dirt in the bed and it still handled great.

Just my opinion the average person doesn't need a truck that hauls 10,500 pounds.

I'd he really say that a 2012 model is the forefather of a truck built in the 60s?

Well I'm gonna take THAT guy seriously....

"i gotta tell ya, if i can't figger it out in 2 minutes, and ive been messin with this for 5 minutes now, then it's too complicated or it just doesn't work right"

Would you take advice from a person who would fix his mouth to utter these words?

I bought my 12 after doing my homework on the taco, frontier, and f150.

If that tub of whale sperm thinks the back of the dc tacoma is small or it gets bad mpg, or has a rough ride...have him look at a frontier, the tacomas only realistic competitor.

Full size is full size, and a review of a midsize truck should leave them out of the discussion. And thank you toyota for the lack of gizmos that this doron wants. I think the tacoma has some really nice tech features without losing the basic utilitarian feel that i want in my truck.

Almost seemed like this guy was apologetic about not liking the truck much; there were some hints of past Toyota love in there.
That guy was beefy, but the issue in the back seat seemed to be the length of his femur, not obesity. I usually try to match the shortest with the tallest rider in tandem for best results.
Consumer reports gave the new model a thumbs down (not recommended) as well, only scored 50 out of 100. (they like the tundra better)
CR is usually pretty unbiased, though they are rating trucks in areas that possibly don't matter to us. Do we really care if it doesn't handle as well as a new sedan?

Sometimes bad reviews like this one and consumer report's can be a good thing. They encourage a company to do better. Would any of us be disappointed if Toyota really stepped it up with the next update? I sure wouldn't.

Consumer Reports used to be a good & unbiased organisation. Just like the network evening news...its all become political.

And, I rather Toyota make market driven improvements (which I believe they will), than changes driven by those with an agenda.

    I'd add...

Toyota produces the Tacoma for a world market...with tweaks for regional market needs/wants.

Realize, in many parts of the world...the Tacoma is like owning an F-250. And in most of the world...the Tacoma is a truck, a work horse...not a daily driver or play toy.

Even in America, the Tacoma's success for decades has been its toughness and utility nature. It's also part of its image as a great off road rig and great truck for the outdoor enthusiast. I know hunters who have a full size Chevy or Ford for their work truck (contractors, masons, plumbers, carpenters...) but have a Tacoma for the woods.

my point: don't look to see Toyota over do the next generation with doo-dads in the interior and bling on the exterior. I think the SR5...Offroad...and Sport work well for the Tacoma as trim levels. I doubt we'll see a "Limited" version like the 4Runner.

    my $.02

I would'nt put much thought in his review. A two year old could attach the tie downs.

I don't care about looks so much as performance and function.
The Prius has the carved out front seats to provide more rear leg room. the venza's 2.7L 6speed auto powertrain is much better than the taco's. The 4runner has the updated V6. The rest of the world gets the 2.5L turbocharged inter-cooled diesel.
Come on, Yota, throw us a bone, er, taco!
