It looked like the driver seat was also pushed way back and partially reclined. With my seat in my regular driving position, I have had buddies that are over 6'4" in the backseat and their knees are not pushing into the back of my seat and they are perfectly comfortable. Its not as big as a Ram Mega Cab but still has plenty of room for two adults.

    I agree

the dealer installed the adjustable cleats on the tracks before I picked up my truck...soon as I got home I took them off just to check out the engineering.

If you can't get your mind wrapped around the cleats/rail system...you really have no business doing vehicle reviews/analysts...let alone operating a motor vehicle. :D

Unfortunately it will probably be a long time before we see a diesel taco. Toyota has too much money in hybrids in the usdm. Bet you we will see a hybrid before a diesel.

Yes, the same engine as the new 4runners; why in the sam hell did they not put it in the '12 "update"?
Highlander and Venza get the updated 2.7L 4banger dual vvti w six speed auto! :(

By "in the trash" do you mean under the hood of all 8 of Toyota's other truck/suv models?

What's not to like about the 2KD-FTV with VNT? I'd accept 253 ftlb torque in an engine smaller than the current 4 banger with 2x the mileage of the current V6.

Manufacturer gave Taco freshening a healthy does of disrespect--

I grudgingly agree with you. Does a hybrid makes sense in a Tacoma? I don't see it being very good for towing, and it will probably have a ridiculous MSRP... The Silverado Hybrid STARTS at 40k and tows 2800lbs less than the 1500. (sorry to us a chevy comparison, its the only hybrid truck I'm aware of)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Trucks are not supposed to ride like sedans, idk why people always complain about ride quality, trucks need stiff suspension for towing and hauling heavy loads. But I came from a Jeep CJ5 where you could feel it if you ran over a cigarette butt, to me the Tacoma rides like a Rolls Royce compared to that Jeep!

Nope, it is a 2.5L. 1KD-FTV is a 3L. A little research is a few clicks away, man.

For most people, spending less on fuel is desirable.

For now, nothing beats a diesel for towing and hauling. Those things pulling 53' trailers down the highway? Not gas.

Duramax diesel? 115.9 ft lb torque per liter: Good for buckling asphalt while pulling a house off its foundation.

Taco 4.0L? 66.5 ft lb per liter: Good towing for smaller boats, getting groceries or commuting to your day job of assistant shift supervisor at Jiffy Lube.

Hilux 2.5L diesel? 101.2 ft lb torque per liter: Good for doing what the 4.0L does with less fuel.

Wrong thread, go to "Hottie vs Hottie".

I stopped the video after hearing him complain about the rail system. I would have loved to see him trying to fiddle with the rail system for 2-5 minutes like an ape in a think-tank. It's honestly not that complex. What a knuckle dragger...

Take the turbo off the Duramax, or 2.5L. 1KD-FTV, and see how much torque per liter you get. Add a turbo to the 1GR-FE or the 2TR-FE and see what you get. Comparing apples to coconuts doesn't work.

I like diesel, but small diesels have never sold enough to amount to anything in the U.S. That's why very few bother try them here now. Even the high fuel prices won't help that much. Given the premium on diesel fuel compared to gas, and the premium on the diesel engine compared to a gas engine, and it's just not worth it for most people. Very few would ever get that back on fuel mileage. Most people in this country don't want diesels, especially in small vehicles.

Oh, and the BMW 328i, gas, turbo, 2.0L inline 4 cyl, 260lbft at 1250 rpm = 130lbft per liter.

I'm seeing A LOT of VW TDI's and Dodge Cummins around here (know some people that own them, lost of words like 'love' and 'great' used when I ask). I don't think its fair to say most people don't want diesels, how could we know when so few are available. They used to suck, but that's history. My pop had 1982 diesel rabbit. Absolute turd, but he averaged 50mpg in the 140k miles he put on it (still has his fuel logs, no joke).
Diesel fuel fetches about an 9% premium (today on GasBuddy) up here in the North West. Lets call it 30% better mileage (give or take). The vehicles do cost more with the diesel engines, no argument there.
Great point about turbo charging. Diesels would still have superior mileage w/out the turbo. They are also inherently more durable, as diesel fuel lubricates moving parts better than gas. How about instead of taking the turbo off that Isuzu warhorse we put one on the yota!
Would I buy a Turbocharged Direct Injected Gas Toyota? Hell Yes! Would it cost as much as the diesel? Hell Yes! Would I then have to use costlier premium fuel? Hell Ye, er, Most Likely!

I'm not trying to compare apples and coconuts. I'm saying I prefer coconuts, and that they are more suited to certain applications, say pina colodas, than apples are...

I see a few VW diesels here, but not that many for the number of gas ones on the road. I've only seen a couple of the CRD Jeeps. I wouldn't call the Ram Cummins a small vehicle, 3/4 ton and up trucks only with diesel.

Fuel oil lubricating better is not why diesels last longer. Propane and natural gas engines last longer and stay cleaner than gasoline engines too, and neither of those lubricate much at all. Diesels last because of piston cooling oil jets, forged cranks, more bearing surface, and lower EGT, meaning less heat rejected into the engine cooling system.

Direct injection for gas engines has only a marginal benefit, unless they go with the diesel style stratified burn type. That costs too much to control the emissions to make the benefits worth it. If they did that, turbo engines wouldn't need the more costly 93 octane gas.

I'm just saying that for most people, diesel doesn't pan out cost wise in small vehicles. The price premium for the diesel up front, the extra for the fuel over 87 octane gas, the problems with starting in colder areas of the country, the required extra maintenance on the fuel filters. You'd have to drive a tremendous amount and a keep a vehicle many years to get ahead with a diesel money wise. Most people, myself included, have not had a problem cars outlasting the engine. The engine has always outlasted the cars I've had. Engine still good, body and hardware rusted away, and or worn out. Just my opinions from years of observation...

If you want more technology, buy a computer. I wouldn't want my Tacoma oozing technology, its a truck...less technology = more reliability. As for the 17 MPG, that really isn't that bad for a heavy truck lugging around a 4WD system. If you have 35,000 to drop on a truck, odds are you aren't all that concerned about MPG. That being said I'd love to see the Hilux diesel engine make it in American Tacomas, not holding my breath though.
